November 28, 2003: Happy Black Friday

Updates, updates, updates. Yes, I am writing on a regular basis. Isn’t it great? Josh has been giving me a hard time about not updating the site on a regular basis so he should be happy now.

Today was errand day. Dad and I started the day off having breakfast at the Barn in Greggsville. After breakfast we had a phone conference for half an hour. Then I had to go back to the house to get some paperwork and go out to do some banking. I had to run all over town and then I had to run up to the city too to do some banking there. It was a lot of running around today.

After I got back from running my errands, Eric, Andy, Jeremy and I played a round of Age of Empires II. It ended up being a four hour game and we ended up giving up because Eric had to get home. Jeremy and I went on and whooped the rest of Andy’s army after Eric left. It wasn’t really fair since Andy was a team member short. But we think that Jeremy and I were in the lead at the end.

Min got up around 7:00 and the three of us went out to Tom Wahl’s for Friday fish fry (I didn’t have fish.) Andy was telling us about a guy in Puerto Rico that he knows who was talking about pornography on the web and referred to it as “Pages of Sex”. We thought that that was pretty funny. So everyone must now use that term.

Last night at dinner, we decided that New Years Eve is going to be at Min and my house in Geneseo. So we don’t have any real solid plans yet but it will be here and Min won’t allow any non-clear liquids on the white carpeting so plan on white wine 😉

After dinner, Andy wanted to watch Coupling Season 2 because he hasn’t gotten a chance to see it yet. Andy is thinking about having his brother Tony over tomorrow to play some Quake II or Quake III. Tony normally plays Halo on the XBox so we wanted to show him what a real, high intensity first person shooter is like.

November 27, 2003: Happy Thanksgiving

It was nice to get to sleep in for a day. I heard Andy get up about an hour before me this morning and head off to his family’s holiday feast. Min slept in until 2:00 which is actually a pretty short night. I got up and watched National Lampoon’s Vacation which I haven’t seen in forever and I am not sure that I have ever seen all the way through. I have seen most of it a few times but it is actually surprising how few times I have seen it. It is funny to see them using an Apple IIe to play video games and to plan out their trip. It is funny to think about what people thought computers were like back then. Although, think about how ridiculous computers in movies are going to look when we look back on them today. Its strange how few people watch movies and don’t notice that the computers that they see are nothing at all like the computers that they use everyday. But if cars were so different in movies (other than people acting like they are racing when they are driving 20-30 mph!) then people would really notice and think it looked really dumb.

Andy got in around 11:00 pm last night. He had pizza on the way home so he wasn’t hungry when he got here. It is weird having him back here. We sat up and watched Desperado Superbit on the projector. He hasn’t seen it since we got it. He was really impressed with it.

Min and I went to lunch at my aunt and uncles in Leicester. We had all the Thanksgiving foods (less the turkey of course) and then played some fictionary and sequence or something like that.

After dinner, Min and I came home around 9:00. Nate and Tammy stopped by to pick me up on the way to Tahoes. We headed up to Rochester for our Eigth Annual gang Thanksgiving at Nick Tahous. We figured it out tonight and we are pretty sure that our first ever Thanksgiving at Tahous was 1996. Every year we have this discussion and try to figure out when it first was that we went there. So if anyone knows at details to help determine for sure how many years it has been, let me know. But unless we hear otherwise, 1996 is the official start. Joe, Bob and I can conclusively prove that we could not have started in 1995 or sooner so 1996 is the first year that it could have been. We a full dozen make it this year. Min was not able to go because she had to go to work but she wasn’t very heartbroken. Dinner was good and the place wasn’t very busy.

After Tahous, we went out to the parking lot and discovered that Nate’s Ford Explorer had been broken into and Tammy’s wallet and about twenty of Nate’s CDs had been stolen. The only damage to Nate’s car was the lock being broken on the driver’s side door.

Nate and Tammy dropped me off at the house. Andy was there watching Are You Being Served? on the projector. Nate and Tammy stopped by for a little while but couldn’t stay because they had to get back to Perry so that they could deal with the stolen wallet.

Okay, well you finally got a real update today so everyone should be happy. I haven’t been checking the logs to see how many people have been coming to the site for a long time so I will be very depressed if I discover that everyone has stopped reading it. I plan on running a total report at the end of December to see how things have been all year. It would be nice to see that our readership has been going up.

November 26, 2003

Min, Dad and I went up to the city this morning to run some errands. Dad needed to go up so Min and I tagged along. We did a little shopping and little banking and then we went to lunch with Eric at Jay’s Diner. We ended up spending hours at lunch! Min and I didn’t end up getting back home until almost 4:00. It was mostly another really slow day today. I have been diligent at doing the updates now for a couple of days but nothing has been happening so these must be the most boring updates ever. Andy is coming home this evening. He called a few hours ago from Philly to say that he was in transit. We expect to see him around 11:00 or so.

Min has to work tonight. She is scheduled to work on all the holidays this year. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years! She has to work tomorrow night too. It makes for a very hectic season. While she was relaxing before Min went to work, we watched Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I don’t think that I like this movie very much. I don’t appreciate media that justifies evil in society. I think that it is an abuse of the power of the media. This movie, while not totally making it look alright, spends too much time justifying the actions of a drug addicted child abuser. We have now watched 1,930 shows on LD and DVD. The average cost per view is down to just $5.14. Ok, ok, I know no one cares but me but I am obsessed so get over it. I am thinking about taking some classes on cinema and trying to teach occasionally. I think teaching cinema would be a lot of fun. I have tons of experience (if reading lots of books makes you an English teacher.) I have a personal collection that I could use for my classes so that might work out well. GCC offers cinema classes and that would be a nice environment to teach in.

November 25, 2003

Danielle and Michael came over this morning. Min and I watched Michael while Danielle went to his parent teacher conference. Michael watched some movies and played some video games. Oh to be young again. Oh, wait, that is what I do everyday! LOL Danielle and I were supposed to go out doing sales today but I was running too late so we decided that it would be better to wait until next week. I might go to DC next week to tie up some stuff but we will wait to see about that. If I go down, it will only be for a couple of days.

November 24, 2003

This morning I discovered mouse number seventeen in the kitchen. Min and I took him with us when we drove to Batavia for my doctor’s appointment. We are dropping mice off all over the countryside. Dad says that we are strengthening the gene pool of the mice outside of Geneseo. We had lunch in Batavia after my appointment.

Dominica went out today and got her fair cut really short. I worked at home most of the day. Mostly productive, more than usual. It is really nice to have so much of the office done downstairs. Having the shelves in place is really helping things. I have been able to put away four or five plastic totes of stuff that we have had stored and that has really cleared up some space in the basement.

Andy is coming home on Wednesday. He is coming home for Thanksgiving. He has to go back on Sunday so it will be a very short visit. It will be nice to have him home for a little bit. We start to forget what it is like to have someone around. This evening, Min and I watched more of Faulty Towers. Min really likes the series.
