October 13, 2003: Columbus Day

Columbus Day. Not really a holiday and yet no one has school and all of the banks are closed.

Mrs. Miller (hee, hee) and I spent most of the day doing cleaning and organizing around the house. The new furniture is arriving tomorrow and there is a lot of stuff that has to be done so that there will be room for it when it gets here. And the house has just become a mess after our week off and all of the gifts and just all of the stuff that has been going on. So we had a lot to do.

Min assembled one of our new CD/DVD racks in the basement. We got two like Josh’s big ones so that we could move all of the DVD’s down from the living room. We didn’t want to clutter up the space up there. So we got that together and set it up in the basement. We moved down a ton of DVDs and moved one of the book shelves from the living room down to the basement. Things are really starting to come along.

Min and I slept in late again this morning because we had been so tired yesterday. We headed out for the three hour drive to Frankfort right after getting up. We went out for the afternoon and visited with Min’s family.

While we were out there, we went to PestSmart or PetsMart or whatever it is and got a new cage for Mr. Humphreys. We decided that he needed two of them with a cool tube in-between like rich hamsters have. We also went to Best Buy and got a new DVD player. We needed another one for the basement. We needed Progressive Scanning and nothing we have currently had that. We lucked out and managed to get a unit that could also play SACD which is really cool. So I am really excited to be able to get it all set up. I also won an auction on eBay today for a laserdisc player. My old one has a shuttering problem so we have been looking for a new one for a while. We finally decided that Min couldn’t take me telling her “we shouldn’t buy that movie because I already own in on laserdisc” anymore. So now we should be able to watch everything again. It will be like having a fresh movie collection all of a sudden. We have hundreds of LDs that have barely been watched in 2-3 years.

We headed back home around 9:00. We grabbed dinner at Taco Bell. We got home and watched Animal House and went to bed.

Min and I slept in late this morning (well, I slept in late because Arti and I were up till 4:00 am and Min had to work all night.) So I got up a little before noon and she got up a little before 2:00. Art and Danielle were planning on going down to Naples for the grape festival and invited us along. So around 3:00, they stopped by (Michael spent the afternoon at his grandparent’s) and we headed on down first to Dansville where we got some fried dough, french fries and a fried snickers bar (ick) before going all the way to Naples. Once in Naples, we drove around looking for Art’s special grape cookies that he needs once a year. We eventually found some and also bought some grape pie, bars and tarts. There is some really good grape stuff there. I have never been to Naples for the festival before. It is kind of neat but there isn’t very much going on but there are tons of people. There was a really good farmer’s market there and we picked up a bit of stuff there. And then we discovered a weird group of shops on the south side of town that we had never noticed before. Napes has a really cool “craft mall” set up like an old west scene. It was pretty neat. We spent about thirty minutes there. We plan to return sometime to really see it better.

After the day in Naples, Min REALLY wanted to go to Rochester for dinner so we drove all the way south and started around the lakes before she told us and then we headed all the way north up to Brighton. We had dinner at the Desert Moon Cafe which is right next door to the King and I in the old King and I store front. It was okay. Nothing really special but it was good. Kind of a strage way to do a restaurant. Very cafeterria.

After dinner, it was over to Target to do some shopping. Min and I ended up getting a stack of DVDs including the rest of the original Peter Sellers Pink Panther movies (we got one of them last night,) Animal House and Vacation. Art picked up Empire Earth Gold Edition so that he can start practicing to be able to play us. It will take him a while to get up to speed on the game. It is really complex. Min also got a bamboo plant to put on the dining room table and a vase.

Danielle and I went down and did sales in Castile this morning. It was a nice morning so we walked all over town. Good exercise. We only had a little while to get all of our sales in because it is a half day at York today and Michael will be home very early. So Danielle had to be done by 11:00.

After this morning’s sales, I headed out to Livonia to pick up a computer that Eric had forgotten about and delivered that up to him and met him for lunch at Jay’s in Henrietta. I didn’t have breakfast so I was pretty hungry by this point.

After lunch we did some running around like going to the bank and then heading up to SoundWorks to pick up my new subwoofer for the basement system.

I got back home and Min and I ran around getting all of the kilts ready to ship out to Scotland Yard this evening. They need to have them by tomorrow. It took over an hour to get them all together and packed back up and ready to ship out. Then Eric and Amanda met us up in Rocehster by the airport at FedEx and we shipped out all of the stuff that we had (the computer that Eric needed to ship out had started in Amanda’s car, then got transferred over to my car to take to Rocehster to give to Eric who put it in his car who then took it home and put it in Amanda’s car to bring to Rochester to ship!) We got everything out in time and then went to the King and I for dinner. It was really good as usual. After dinner we hit Media Play because we all needed some new movies. Min and I just picked up some bargain stuff. A couple Cart Grant movies, a Pink Panther movie and My Neighbor Tortora, a classic anime.

We got back from our outing and Art came over (about when Min went to work) and he and I played AoE2 all night.

Can you believe that Sheep Guarding Llama is finally up to date again? And with real updates. This morning, I had to leave the house just as Min was pulling in the driveway. I am picking Danielle up and we are going out to do some sales around Perry this morning. I forgot to mention the other day that my garage door isn’t working anymore. It just stopped working one day. I have no idea what is wrong with it. I think that something is jammed in it. But I don’t know much about garage door openers so I am not sure what I should do about it. I have been putting it off and parking outside because I have been so busy.

I got over to Arti and Danielle’s house around 9:15 and we jetted off to Perry. We couldn’t believe how hot it is out this morning. I was sweating as we walked up and down the streets. It was kind of depressing, though, it has been a long time since I spent any time walking around in Perry and this town is completely deserted. All of the buildings are empty and there is nothing going on at all. All of the storefronts have been closed for a long time. It is just really sad.
