December 13, 2016: Rachel Car Dies

Tuesday.  The morning started off okay but around noon Rachel called with an emergency, her car had died on the side of I35.  Totally dead, in a dangerous spot and waiting on a tow truck.  I was prepared to go and get her but she had to wait for the tow and that took forever.  She was considered a “priority” because she was in a dangerous spot blocking the road and had nowhere to move the car for safety but they “forgot” her there for over an hour, oops.

Chris ended up showing up to get her, so Watson and I who were prepared to get her if necessary didn’t have to go.  She spent much of the day dealing with that and then coming home to figure out what to do.  She was not prepared for the reality that “new” used cars, especially ones that are twenty years old, tend to fall apart pretty quickly after you buy them.

This evening Shawn, Rachel and I went out, and Dominica stayed home with the kids, to go to Red Rock to have drinks and play darts for Shawn’s 28th birthday.  Tim ended up joining us later on in the night.  A weird lady kind of made herself a part of our group at the bar and insisted on playing darts badly with us for quite a while.  She had her own darts that she kept at the bar and talked on and on about how good she was, but she wasn’t even up to my level and I don’t like nor play darts!  After she left I played with Shawn and Rachel and beat them both.  Somehow I am the dart master of the group and I am the only one that doesn’t like darts at all.  Everyone else is really into it, including Dominica.

It was very late when we got back and Rachel ended up falling out of the van and hitting the sidewalk.  We had no idea that she was drunk, she had just been drinking with us which was hardly anything.  So weird.

December 12, 2016: Final Stretch of Updates

Monday.  We are on the home stretch of SGL updates.  I have nearly caught up!  There is a two week gap for me to reconstruct at this point and then basically everything has been up to date for the month following that, just not yet posted!  Here we go.

Had quite a busy day of posting and writing.  Got a lot done, a good jump on the week.

Dominica went out tonight so I was the babysitter.  Daddy – daughter night in!  We always have a lot of fun, they like me being the babysitter nearly as much as they like having a real one.  Ha ha.

Later in the evening we watched more of Coupling.

December 11, 2016: Doctor Who Season Nine

This morning I got up and worked on my DuoLingo right away.  Liesl did as well, she did seven DuoLingo lessons as soon as she got up today!  She is doing awesome at learning Italian.  We are so proud of her.  She just flew through her lessons.

Dominica found that Doctor Who Season Nine was available on Amazon Video on Demand today so we started watching that when we had the chance and got through a few episodes.

AJ got a hold of me today and asked if Caleb could stop by and talk to us about storing some boxes in our house for a while.  So he came by around seven thirty and hung out for probably an hour.  He plans to come by Friday with some of his boxes.  He only has a car so needs to bring things in small loads.

December 10, 2016: Fuller House Season Two

Today we decided to binge watch Fuller House Season Two on Netflix as a family.  It was a really nice day.  Liesl and Luciana climbed up with me on the big couch in the living room and just snuggled all day, it was awesome.  We had such a nice family day with absolutely nothing else going on.

Rachel stopped by in the afternoon, but for less than half an hour and was off again so we never really saw her.

We managed to get through the entire second season of Fuller House in a single sitting.  It was, I think, maybe better than the first season.  It was good, for sure.  We really enjoyed it.

Tonight Liesl discovered DuoLingo right around bed time.  I got it loaded up on her phone when she excitedly watched me doing my bedtime Italian lessons.  So she did two lessons of her own on her own account before falling asleep!  How exciting that she is voluntarily taking up learning Italian!

Luciana was disappointed that she could not do DuoLingo with us (she neither has her own phone nor can she read the English so it makes it impossible for her) so I looked and found some iPad applications that are meant for younger kids to learn Italian.  She had great fun going through some lessons with that as well.  We are so happy that the girls are excited to be learning Italian.

The girls slept in our room tonight.  They plan to get up in the morning and work on Italian again.

December 9, 2016: Luciana Has Strep

Friday.  Luciana got up very, very sick today.  She had a bad fever and her neck was really swollen.  We had to take her to the clinic pretty early in the day.

The clinic went well, we saw the doctor and they ran a test on the spot and so we only had to wait like twenty minutes and they knew that she had strep throat.  No big deal, once in a while it can manifest in this way so nothing to be alarmed about.  They got us on amoxicilian <sp> and they were sure that she would be just fine.  Luciana had such a good experience at the clinic that she said that she wants to go back there next time that she is not feeling well!

Had a busy afternoon trying to fix the epic disaster that someone who Cornell felt acceptable to give a degree to did to a company.  What a mess.  That took all afternoon and definitely felt like documentation for a professional negligence trial.
