December 10, 2016: Fuller House Season Two

Today we decided to binge watch Fuller House Season Two on Netflix as a family.  It was a really nice day.  Liesl and Luciana climbed up with me on the big couch in the living room and just snuggled all day, it was awesome.  We had such a nice family day with absolutely nothing else going on.

Rachel stopped by in the afternoon, but for less than half an hour and was off again so we never really saw her.

We managed to get through the entire second season of Fuller House in a single sitting.  It was, I think, maybe better than the first season.  It was good, for sure.  We really enjoyed it.

Tonight Liesl discovered DuoLingo right around bed time.  I got it loaded up on her phone when she excitedly watched me doing my bedtime Italian lessons.  So she did two lessons of her own on her own account before falling asleep!  How exciting that she is voluntarily taking up learning Italian!

Luciana was disappointed that she could not do DuoLingo with us (she neither has her own phone nor can she read the English so it makes it impossible for her) so I looked and found some iPad applications that are meant for younger kids to learn Italian.  She had great fun going through some lessons with that as well.  We are so happy that the girls are excited to be learning Italian.

The girls slept in our room tonight.  They plan to get up in the morning and work on Italian again.

December 9, 2016: Luciana Has Strep

Friday.  Luciana got up very, very sick today.  She had a bad fever and her neck was really swollen.  We had to take her to the clinic pretty early in the day.

The clinic went well, we saw the doctor and they ran a test on the spot and so we only had to wait like twenty minutes and they knew that she had strep throat.  No big deal, once in a while it can manifest in this way so nothing to be alarmed about.  They got us on amoxicilian <sp> and they were sure that she would be just fine.  Luciana had such a good experience at the clinic that she said that she wants to go back there next time that she is not feeling well!

Had a busy afternoon trying to fix the epic disaster that someone who Cornell felt acceptable to give a degree to did to a company.  What a mess.  That took all afternoon and definitely felt like documentation for a professional negligence trial.

December 8, 2016: Webinar and SpiceCorps

Very busy day for me today.  I got up early and got as much done on the early side as I could.  Then made a huge coffee and had a phone call for an hour around noon, then did a webinar that went really well this afternoon.

After the webinar, it was time to prep for the SpiceCorps event that we were having at the house tonight.  This was a panic meeting to try to do damage control after the last meeting was so epically terrible and insulting.  The group used to be really good, but now there is no reason to attend any longer.

The meeting went well and even Andrew made it out tonight.  There was  a lot of drinking, of course.  Had a purely social evening, no presentations.  We ended up having to drive Andrew home by the end of the night.

The outcome of the evening was that the organizers decided that it was time to disband the SpiceCorps DFW group after eight years.  It just isn’t what people were wanting any longer and it was not working out well.

It was a very late night for Dominica and I as we were playing designated drivers until about four in the morning.  Rachel had to stay home and watch the kids.

December 7, 2016: Babysitting for a Change

Wednesday.  Normal writing and posting day.  About six weeks until we head back to Europe, starting to get into the window where there is a lot to be done and it seems like there is a lot of time but it is actually becoming a crunch with the holidays and everything.  We should be in New York in less than a month.

This evening we had dinner at IHOP with the kids.  They like it there and we like the toasted marshmallow hot chocolate.  The kids tried it and Liesl liked it a little but could only drink half of one and Luciana could not drink any at all.  So I got a lot.  I took a full cup to go, as well.

Rachel went out with Melanie to go car shopping this evening.  While they were out we babysat Melanie’s two year old son.  The girls thought that that was fun.

Rachel came home with a “new” 1996 Honda Civic that looks like it is about to fall apart but seems to run well enough.  It is a standard, so no risk of Dominica borrowing it.

December 6, 2016: Last Days of Disco

Tuesday. Got up super early before anyone else was awake.  Got out and got breakfast at Taco Bell, their breakfast is always way better and cheaper than you expect it to be.  But their coffee is nothing to compare to McDonald’s so you have to pick your battles or drive to two places to get breakfast going.  The sun was insanely bright this morning, I could barely see for the longest time.

Kids wanted pizza and we are tired of the other options so just got Domino’s tonight.

Hung out with Shawn and Rachel at the house tonight.  Rachel has been begging us to watch Last Days of Disco which it turns out is the third part of a trilogy of which she was unaware so there was a lot of the movie that did not make sense.  Of course, it was not a good movie that really made sense anyway, so that probably was not  a big deal.  This continues the trend of Rachel picking absolutely terrible movies.
