October 14, 2016: Blackhawk

Friday and today is our Blackhawk concert!  So excited.  Rachel is watching the girls tonight so that we can go out.

This morning I went out shopping at GameStop and got a refurbed Nintendo 3DL New XL for Liesl who is ready for the “adult” level gaming system and that means that her old 2DS goes to Luciana.  She is going to be very excited.  Both of them are.

While I was out I stopped at Subway and picked up lunch for the family.

I wrote all day and then this evening Dominica and I drove out to Plano on the early side so that we could make the concert.  The concert is at a small bar venue called Love and War in Texas.

We got to the bar and managed to get a seat nearly right at the stage.  It’s a very small, intimate place.  We ordered dinner and hung out with the people seated at our table for a little bit.  I got habanero fish tacos which was full of actual habaneros so my mouth was numb for much of the evening, but the food was good.

The Blackhawk show was amazing.  Our seats were great and we were so close to them!  Nothing like seeing the at the Rochester War Memorial two decades ago with Nathan.

What an amazing concert, one of the best that I have ever seen.  They really rocked it tonight.  We did not get a chance to meet them, though.  There were too many people trying to do that.

It was not all that late by the time that we got home.  We are so glad that we tracked down this concert.

October 13, 2016: Scale Legion Event in Dallas

Thursday.  Tomorrow Dominica and I have our concert date night.  Can’t wait.  We have not seen a concert together in way too long.

Another slow day today.  Lots of writing and posting.  And still way, way behind on SGL updates.  I am doing what I can.  I need to be caught up before we start traveling again in January.  I had a headache much of the day, so was on the quiet side and hid in the office drinking coffee for much of the day.

This fall is pretty news-less for us.  Hanging out at the house, some video games, spending some time with Rachel.  It’s a bit of downtime for us before we do more exciting things in the winter.

This evening Rachel and I drove down to Top Golf in Dallas to go to the local Scale Legion event there.  This is the first one that we have had in the area and I have never been to Top Golf before, either.

The event was pretty good.  Got to do some networking and met some new people.  The venue was cool, I like Top Golf.  Chris showed up later in the evening as well.

It was an early night, only out until about ten.

October 12, 2016: Slow Wednesday

Wednesday.  My busy day of the week.  So spent the morning working busily at posting and writing.  Not much to report on today.

The day after tomorrow Dominica and I are going out to see one of our all time favourite bands play over in Plano: Blackhawk.  We have not seen them in decades, this is going to be very cool.

Just a normal day today, very low key.  We are enjoying having down time at our house in Carrollton.

October 11, 2016: Lunch with Watson

Tuesday.  Had a slow morning and then at lunch time Brian Watson came up and we met at Chilie’s right down the street for some lunch.  He is working right down the street these days so it is easy for us to meet up for lunch as most of the restaurants are between my place and his office and it is only about five minutes between us, anyway.

October 10, 2016: Goodbye Albus

Today is Monday and we had a very shocking day.  This morning Francesca called to tell us that Albus, the dog that Joe had had for the last year or two and that has been with the Grices since the baby was born passed away in his sleep last night!  We have no idea how old he was, but he was such a sweet dog and we did not know if he was two or eight years ago.  But apparently he had a heart attack in his sleep and went more or less peacefully and no one knew it until the kids tried to wake him up this morning.

Albus was a rescued boxer and just the sweetest dog.  We are so surprised and so upset that he is gone.  What a terrible loss.  Everyone is devastated.  No one had any idea that anything was wrong with him.  All of the kids are having a really rough time with this.

This evening Rachel watched the kids and Dominica and I finally got to go out on a real “just us” date.  It’s still the week of our anniversary so I guess that this counts.

Dominica and I went up to a place in Plano that had been recommended but we walked in and it was just that awful suburban sprawling crap that I cannot stand.  We turned around and left right away.  Not to self, never ever go to Plano for anything.  There will never be something in Plano that will make us happy.

We did some quick research and found a decent cocktail bar not far from where we were so we walked down and did a light dinner and drinks at a place called Pepper Smash.

We were not out very late.
