July 18, 2016: Passport Renewals

We are pretty tired this morning after being up so late last night watching the movies at the Silver Lake Drive In.

I spent the morning on my writing and posting.  It was a busy morning since I had to sleep in for so long.

This afternoon we ran the four of us over to Geneseo to go to the post office there so that we could work on our passport renewals.  That was a one hour and $500 process but, hopefully, we will have our passports ready to go in under six weeks.  It will be five years before the girls need new ones again and ten years for Dominica and me.  We had to get the big passports this time, the ones with double the pages as we go through them so quickly.

This afternoon dad hooked up the hay wagon and we took everyone out for a ride around the farm.  We got lots of great pictures and videos of the ride.  We had a lot of fun.  The girls really liked it.

July 17, 2016: First Drive In Excursion of the Summer

A quiet Sunday morning at dad’s.  We were pretty relaxed and took it easy.   Our plan was to to down to Aunt Sharon and Uncle Leo’s this afternoon so that the girls could play with the cats.  I ended up having a very busy day of working on the phone for several hours today that were unexpected, which interrupted our schedules quite a bit.

Around six we went to Sharon and Leo’s and got about an hour there before we all went to the Charcoal Corral for dinner and met up with dad who had been at church.  Dominica and I both got salmon burgers for dinner and they were delicious.

After dinner it was just the four of us, Dominica, Liesl, Luciana and me, watching the movies at the drive in.  We saw The Secret Life of Pets first which was pretty boring and not at all worth sitting through.  The first five minutes were cute and funny, but that five minutes is what was shown in previews months ago and I had already seen it more than once.  Literally the preview was just the beginning of the actual movie, as shown.  And once that was over, the cute and funny movie was done and the boring crap was all that was left.

After that we saw the live action “Legend of Tarzan” which at the very least was not the old story retold but a bit of a different take on it, but still totally uninteresting and banal.  I really wanted to sleep through both movies, but was unable to fall asleep.  Luciana did climb into my lap and fall asleep during the second movie, though.  She slept so thoroughly that the next day she did not even remember that there had been a second movie!

July 16, 2016: Red Lobster with the Family

Saturday at dad’s place.  The weather was not so hot today, but still no rain.  It is very dry this summer in New York.  I slept in a lot today, according to my Apple Watch, getting just over nine hours of restful sleep!  I must have been really exhausted.

We had an early breakfast or late lunch at eleven, veggie burgers on the grill.  Then it was just a little relaxing at the house until at a quarter till three we needed to be on our way to Rochester to meet up with the family for a big dinner at Red Lobster.

The girls have been asking to go to Red Lobster with grandpa for months.  And every day since getting back to New York they have been mentioning it.  Dinner was at four with Aunt Sharon and Uncle Leo, my cousin Sara and her fiancee Jen and, of course, Dominica, Liesl, Luciana, dad and me.

After dinner we drove to a park in Chili with a great playground and the girls played for about two hours.  They had an awesome time and played with all kinds of kids.  It was a really good time to go to the playground.

After the playground we all felt like Abbott’s frozen custard, which is actually what we had been hunting for when we found the playground in the first place, so we drove all over until we found one, ate and then were off to home.

July 15, 2016: Friday on the Farm

It is Friday in Peoria out on dad’s farm.  I’ve been very, very far behind on SGL updates and today is just one of those lost days.  We know that we drove out last night and that I spent the day working out of dad’s office to get writing and posting done.

July 14, 2016: Back to Peoria

Our last morning in Frankfort, again.  Dominica made a big breakfast this morning.  We have a lot to do today.

The first task of the morning is Dominica taking Liesl back to Herkimer to see the dentist again. She needed to get her last cavity filled while we were still in town.

This afternoon we were back in the car after Liesl’s dentist appointment and drove out to dad’s house where we will be for a while until we head down to Texas.
