November 11, 2014: Final Day at BW

While I have been at home for a month now, today was officially my final day at my old job.  As of this evening, I am completely dissociated with them now.  In some ways that is stressful and in other ways, it is very nice.  I am not their employee any longer.  My final paycheck should arrive in the mail tomorrow.

Did not go anywhere today. We have been very much just homebodies these days.  I spent the day doing a lot of posting, as I have been doing, and some writing.  We watched a lot of How I Met Your Mother today.  Dominica and I are working our way back through the series.  Liesl even commented that she knows this show well because we have been watching it her whole life.  Which is true, we’ve been watching for like eight years or more!

This evening I put in an hour playing Space Quest V with the girls.  I still cannot get over how much they love that series.  They are so into the storyline and know everything that is going on.  It’s amazing.

Dominica has been playing a lot of The Sims 3 since last night when she got it installed on her laptop again. It has been a few years, I think, since she last played it.

Pretty slow day around here.  A few long phone calls.  Still trying to make heads and tails of the situation that is going on. No real news to deliver yet.  Things just keep dragging on.

Tonight we had another family movie night and watched Back to the Future III.  Liesl enjoyed the whole series.

November 10, 2014: Beginning Another Week

It is a Monday but it is pretty hard to tell around here.  After a month of being home continuously the idea of there being days of the week is beginning to be lost on me.  I am starting to feel a little bit dysfunctional just from not doing anything normal in a long time.

I played a small amount of Wind Waker for the girls tonight.  I had a small mission that I was able to accomplish in less than an hour and I was happy to knock that one out. That is a long game and the dungeons do not allow you to just save anytime which is ridiculous in this day and age to use such a pathetic challenge that makes the game challenging based on real world conditions (abundance of free time, lack of interruptions) rather than on something in the game itself. Very amateur.  I can’t wait to be done with this game.  I just want it to be over and I need to remind myself to never try a Zelda game again.  They make me so unhappy.  If the kids want to play them, they need to do it themselves not have me play it for them.  It is just not a happy game.  Dominica likes them some, maybe she will play some with them.

We watched more of How I Met Your Mother tonight.

Our days are pretty uneventful right now.  We are all home, all of the time.  The four of us together.  That part is great.  I am getting good sleep too.  Seven hours every night, which is all that my body will realistically allow me to sleep.  And I have been working hard to go to bed around midnight rather than letting my schedule skew like crazy.  So that has been working out well.  We are keeping to a healthy schedule.

Family movie night was Back to the Future II tonight.  These are great family movies.  We are really enjoying them.

No word on what is going on with work today.  Still, just waiting.

November 9, 2014: Back to the Future

A quiet Sunday in the Miller household.

This evening we played Wind Waker for a while but got stuck and I needed time to go look some things up before we would be able to play again.  So we switched to playing Space Quest IV which we were able to complete tonight.  The girls loved it, as they have loved all of the Space Quest games.  We fired up Space Quest V just so that they could get a look at it too as they are always desperate to know what the next game in the series is going to look like.  SQ4 had full voice acting which was nice, but the graphics were poor.  SQ5 improves the graphics a lot both in quality and style.  It is good enough to be really enjoyable from a graphical perspective.  But it drops voice acting in favour of cartoon dialogue balloons which is well done but not as nice.  I’ve heard that SQ6 has even better graphics and goes back to the voice acting.  One can hope.

Tonight we talked Liesl into trying out watching Back to the Future.  She has never seen any of these movies and neither Dominica nor I have seen any of them in a very, very long time.  They were such classic and iconic movies of the 1980s and I feel so very attached to them but now, going to watch them again with the girls, they feel so insanely long ago and far away.  But Liesl enjoyed watching the first movie and we had a good time.

November 8, 2014: At Home

It is Saturday.  Weekends are tough and stressful when you spend your entire weekend waiting on information and if that information does not arrive then you are stuck going over the weekend sitting around with the same concerns but only knowing that you cannot even be waiting on anything as there is no one that could possibly have any information for you.  So the weekends get to be pretty tough too!  It is just a really rough situation.

Based on information from yesterday, we are pretty confident that my time at Bridgewater is going to be coming to an end in the very near future, but we don’t really have any details yet.  But we think that it will only be a couple more days at most.  What happens then, we really have no idea.

We took today to just spend time as a family.  We’ve not had a lot of time together yet so we are still just having fun getting to be together.

November 7, 2014: Wrapping Up the Week

It’s Friday.  Still no news on anything.  There rarely is on a Friday.  Going into another weekend wondering what next week is going to be like.

Another day of just spending time at home with the family.  The girls are still pretty much continuously attached to me.  We’ve really missed each other.

Dominica went out and did some quick shopping as the house is completely out of everything.  She had a salon appointment downtown today so she went there and brought home Subway for dinner.  The girls were happy to be hanging out with me all afternoon and always excited to get Subway, although in reality it is Liesl who is very excited and we are lucky if we can get Luciana to eat one quarter of the sandwich.  But it remains Liesl’s favourite food to get.

Dominica and I did some house cleaning today.  I did a bit earlier this week so the house is not looking too bad at the moment.
