November 14, 2014: Age of Empires Day

Another day at home.  Dominica and I were both in a bit of an Age of Empires mood and so I played a few games of it on my own and I played one or two with her (as a team, not head to head) as well.  That made for a fun day.  We have not played that game in a really, really long time.  At least not playing it for any real amount.  The new HD enhancements make it so much better.  We are loving the Steam integration.

This is one of the advantages of spending time hanging out in the Gamrha.us Community, it reminds us what games we have and what we like to play and that we should be playing games sometimes.

This evening I gave in and played some Wind Waker with the girls too.  I am really hoping that we can get that game over and done on the soonish side.  There is not all of that much left to go in the game and I just want to be done with it.  I made it to the beginning of the Wind Temple tonight.  So a bit left to go, but I am in one of the last major challenges of the game.  The last of the traditional dungeons.

November 13, 2014: Catching Up on Sleepy Hollow

This whole being unemployed thing is very odd.  We don’t know anything about the severance deal yet so we are very much at a loss for exactly what we should be doing and when.

This evening, when the girls were playing on their own somewhere, Dominica and I worked to start catching back up on the series Sleepy Hollow which we like quite a bit but it is too scary to be watching when the girls are around so we have a tendency to not get to watch it too often causing us to binge watch it when we get a chance.

We discovered today that the “What are you doing?” thread on MangoLassi is getting over 2,000 hits per day which is pretty amazing for a single thread.  This is the first really high volume that has been seen.

Did some more writing today and got another article written and out the door.  At least being home all of this time allows me to get time to write and stuff.  Although because of the amount of stuff going on and the stress and everything it has actually been incredibly hard to keep SGL updated, which might seem unlikely.  So it has been about the furthest behind that it has ever been these past two months.  At least the most that it has been behind for four or five years now, I would say.

November 12, 2014: First Day “Unemployed”

My first day “unemployed”, more or less.  Not exactly, but essentially.  We are living on vacation time now.  My final paycheck came FedEx this morning and appeared, more or less, to be in order.  There is not great transparency on these things but it seemed correct as far as I could tell.

There is going to be a severance offer but it might be a little while before we get that to know what it is really going to be like.  I should know something about that in about a week, maybe two.  At this point we don’t know if that is going to be any good, if it is something that we can actually take, what it all means, etc.

Did a lot of posting today.  And a lot of writing.  Dominica set to playing the Sims 3 pretty early on this morning.

We are trying to figure out what our plans are going to be from this point going forward.  Much stress, of course.

November 11, 2014: Final Day at BW

While I have been at home for a month now, today was officially my final day at my old job.  As of this evening, I am completely dissociated with them now.  In some ways that is stressful and in other ways, it is very nice.  I am not their employee any longer.  My final paycheck should arrive in the mail tomorrow.

Did not go anywhere today. We have been very much just homebodies these days.  I spent the day doing a lot of posting, as I have been doing, and some writing.  We watched a lot of How I Met Your Mother today.  Dominica and I are working our way back through the series.  Liesl even commented that she knows this show well because we have been watching it her whole life.  Which is true, we’ve been watching for like eight years or more!

This evening I put in an hour playing Space Quest V with the girls.  I still cannot get over how much they love that series.  They are so into the storyline and know everything that is going on.  It’s amazing.

Dominica has been playing a lot of The Sims 3 since last night when she got it installed on her laptop again. It has been a few years, I think, since she last played it.

Pretty slow day around here.  A few long phone calls.  Still trying to make heads and tails of the situation that is going on. No real news to deliver yet.  Things just keep dragging on.

Tonight we had another family movie night and watched Back to the Future III.  Liesl enjoyed the whole series.

November 10, 2014: Beginning Another Week

It is a Monday but it is pretty hard to tell around here.  After a month of being home continuously the idea of there being days of the week is beginning to be lost on me.  I am starting to feel a little bit dysfunctional just from not doing anything normal in a long time.

I played a small amount of Wind Waker for the girls tonight.  I had a small mission that I was able to accomplish in less than an hour and I was happy to knock that one out. That is a long game and the dungeons do not allow you to just save anytime which is ridiculous in this day and age to use such a pathetic challenge that makes the game challenging based on real world conditions (abundance of free time, lack of interruptions) rather than on something in the game itself. Very amateur.  I can’t wait to be done with this game.  I just want it to be over and I need to remind myself to never try a Zelda game again.  They make me so unhappy.  If the kids want to play them, they need to do it themselves not have me play it for them.  It is just not a happy game.  Dominica likes them some, maybe she will play some with them.

We watched more of How I Met Your Mother tonight.

Our days are pretty uneventful right now.  We are all home, all of the time.  The four of us together.  That part is great.  I am getting good sleep too.  Seven hours every night, which is all that my body will realistically allow me to sleep.  And I have been working hard to go to bed around midnight rather than letting my schedule skew like crazy.  So that has been working out well.  We are keeping to a healthy schedule.

Family movie night was Back to the Future II tonight.  These are great family movies.  We are really enjoying them.

No word on what is going on with work today.  Still, just waiting.
