August 21, 2014: Happy Birthday Dominica

Today is Dominica’s birthday!

I had a very busy day at the office today. It was a good day, but it meant that I never got a chance to take a break to run to the store to get a card or cake for Dominica.  I had been planning to at least surprise her with a cake.  I worked solidly the entire day.

Just before leaving the office I got an email from Symantec telling me to check out the video that they had posted.  They did a corporate video for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and who did they call out to do the challenge as well?  That’s right, me.  The first person called out by Symantec.  Oh boy, now I have to do something.

Later in the day, Pertino called me out for the ALS Challenge as well.

Dominica ordered Italian in for dinner just as I was leaving the office.  That worked out perfectly as they were going up to the door to deliver it just as I was pulling into the parking lot at the house.

We had dinner and watched some 30 Rock.  Then, before it was too late, I ran out to Stop and Shop to pick up cupcakes for the girls and cheese cake for Dominica and a few bags of ice for tomorrow morning.  Dominica will film me doing the challenge in the morning.

Came back home and the girls had their cakes.  We did not stay up too late tonight.

August 20, 2014: Long, New Book

On the drive into the office this morning I finished reading “Founding Brothers” by Joseph Ellis and started reading “History of the World, Updates” by J. M. Roberts.  This is one of those super long books that has been sitting in my Audible queue since easily six years ago.  The book is fifty five hours in length so this one is going to take me a while to work through.  It was a pretty slow start.

Tomorrow is Dominica’s birthday.  We don’t have anything special planned yet.  I will probably get some cake.  Her birthday present is the new HP laptop that we ordered a week ago.  Much newer and smaller than the one that she is using now.  And with a touch screen.  Should be far superior for use while sitting on the chaise lounge.  Do not know when that will arrive, though.

August 19, 2014: More Minish Cap

It’s Tuesday.  The family is all back to normal now.  No one is sick.  Just a normal work day.  Work is pretty busy this week.  Had a good meeting today to discuss a lot of things at the office.  Overall feeling good today regardless of the direction that decisions end up going in the near future.  Considering a lot of options.  Don’t know what direction we will be taking in the next few months.  It is a bit stressful having major decisions up in the air, that always weighs on your.  But we are feeling good about them in general.

After work this evening it was more Minish Cap for Dominica with the girls.  They just love it when we play video games as a family.  Dominica is making great progress through her game and is pretty likely to be able to beat it this week.

August 18, 2014: Luciana’s Fever Gets Better

Back to work.  Slept in a little this morning, was just a little tired.  The Spark is up to 36.1MPG now, still going strong.  If it would just stop burning oil it would be insanely cheap.

Work flew by today.  Before I knew it it was nearly seven this evening.

Came home and Dominica was engrossed in The Minish Cap and the girls were having a great time watching her play.  So that was most of the evening.  I hung out in the living room for an most an hour before Luciana asked me to take her up and put her to bed.  She watched a couple Amazon shows in our bed and passed right out.  She is feeling way better tonight and we think that her fever is finally gone.  If she makes it all day tomorrow without the fever returning we will feel safe.

Liesl stayed up a bit longer to watch Dominica play.  I put her to bed around eleven.  The girls were actually asleep at a good time tonight.

I got caught up on SGL tonight.  Dominica stayed up very late playing her video game by herself.

August 17, 2014: Dominica Restarts The Minish Cap

Liesl got me up this morning.  We tried to sleep in but the girls were having none of it.  Liesl wanted her chocolate milk and a movie on the big screen in the living room.  So I got up and got her set up.  Luciana was up very shortly.

Luciana still has a little bit of a fever this morning but only very little.  She is clearly improving and throughout the day she got better and better and, by bedtime, I would say that there were really no signs of her fever left and she was awake and perky as if she was not sick at all.

I did some work this morning upstairs in the bedroom.  Dominica went down and started playing The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap which we bought last night for the Wii U (from the Virtual Console store, it is originally a GBA game.)  She played for many hours and the girls had a great time just hanging out on the couch watching her play.

Liesl tried playing Picmin 3 for maybe an hour too.  She kinda liked it but it was a bit of a struggle for her.  Not sure if she is going to continue playing that or not.

This afternoon our first ever produce shipment from FreshNation arrived.  It was a big load of stuff.  We are very impressed.  Hoping to use this service a lot.

We ordered in Chinese again tonight.  We watched an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place while we ate.  Then it was time for me to play The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker again at the request of my children.  I played for several hours and made good progress through it.  Liesl wanted me to play all evening but Luciana eventually had enough of it.
