July 30, 2014: A Little More Wind Waker

It’s hump day and very little to report.  This week feels, overall, to be pretty uneventful.  We are still catching our breath from everything that has been going on recently.  Getting a chance to just hang out as a family again.  We’ve seen so little of each other this past month.

After work we all went to the playground again.  We love doing this as it lets the kids burn off steam and we all get some fresh air and exercise which is always hard to come by.

I played a like Wind Waker tonight.  The girls really like it when I play it and they want me to play it a lot more than I want to play it.  I find the game pretty much boring and frustrating.  It relies on a lot of boring action and hack and slash stuff that I do not enjoy and tells little to no story which is the part that I care about.  And the graphics, while the best ever from Nintendo, remain incredibly lame.  Like 2002 era lame.  Maybe not even that good.  They are still struggling to make games look acceptable for the PlayStation 2!!

So I played for a short while and got through the first major dungeon and then hung up my sword for the evening.

July 29, 2014: Founding Brothers

Got up at five this morning. Right after I got up, Liesl did too and sneaked into our room because she was lonely so she climbed into bed with Luciana and Dominica.

Starting reading “Founding Brothers” this morning on my drive in.  Slowly working through my backlog of Audible titles that I have yet to read.  It is amazing how many titles I have stored up and now long it can take to work through them all, even putting in a few hours every day doing so!

Tonight when I got home it was right up the hill to the playground.  Luciana always wants to go much more than Liesl does these days.  It was a shorter night on the playground tonight.

Watching some 30 Rock this evening.

July 28, 2014: Everyone Is Okay

Ah back to the grind. The weekend is already over. Hard to believe. It goes by so quickly. And this was an exceptionally eventful weekend too. Both girls are feeling well this morning. No lingering issues from the weekend. Thank goodness.

Busy day at work. Got home at nearly eight. Luciana had had a rough day and was sent upstairs a while before I got home. I went upstairs and found her fast asleep in our bed. Unfortunately Dominica had not though to put a pull up on her and she had peed the bed in her sleep and had not even woken up. That is how tired she was.

We woke her up to get her dressed to go to the playground and she kept asking “is daddy here” even though I was holding her and talking to her. She couldn’t understand that I was there. She was seriously groggy.

Liesl did not feel like going to the playground but Luciana begged but we knew that they both need to be worn out or they won’t sleep tonight so we took them as late as it was. So we walked up to the playground anyway. It had rained today so everything was wet. They decided to spend the time running around on the wood chips rather than playing on the playground set. They burned a lot of energy.

It was nearly nine by the time that we got back. I worked for about fifteen minutes then we watched an episode of 30 Rock and it was time to get the girls heading off to bed.

Tonight Liesl was the one who managed to fall asleep and Luciana was up for hours. Eventually Luciana came downstairs and snuggled with me for an episode and a half and then we all went to bed. Ciana asked if she could sleep in our room and Dominica was feeling generous. Ciana was very happy and pretty much went straight to sleep there.

July 27, 2014: The Girls Are Recovering

The girls are both doing well this morning. Luciana has no signs that she had a major accident and ER trip yesterday except for a little goop in her left eye probably from the cut healing (you can’t see the cut.) Liesl says that her left eye is still soar but she is able to see today and it is not too bad. It started off soar but appeared to be all better by the end of the day.

I had much more work still to do today so spent the morning and the early afternoon upstairs in the bedroom working at the “office” to get things done. Liesl did a great job of leaving me in peace so that I could complete stuff. Luciana had a harder time of it and would come upstairs and try to play with me, play under my desk or hide underneath our bed as much as she could.

Dominica played Wind Waker with the girls, mostly with Liesl, for several hours. They loved that and were so excited that she got ahead of me today.

I was able to wrap up in the middle of the afternoon. Boy that felt good to get completed. I came down to spend time with the girls and Dominica took the opportunity to go out grocery shopping and to go to Subway to pick up dinner. While she was gone I played some Wind Waker on my own account with the girls but I did not manage to catch up to where Dominica was and Liesl does not think that I am nearly as good at this game as mommy is. Which I am sure is true. Dominica is an old Zelda player and I am new to it. I have only ever played a little Twilight Princess and nothing else and did not really get very far in that either.

Once Dominica was back home we watched several episodes of 30 Rock and called it a weekend.

July 26, 2014: Luciana Falls Down the Stairs

Luciana sneaked into our room this morning at around seven and climbed into bed and snuggled with me for a while.  We had to get up at eight thirty as the guys were coming to fix our broken bedroom ceiling this morning at nine.

The family was all up and ready when the repair guys came, there were two of them.  We had to move everything in our bedroom to make room for them, as expected.  This gives us a good chance to clean under the bed I suppose.

Liesl and Luciana wanted to watch me play Wind Waker this morning on the Wii U so we set up in the living room to do that and played for a while.  After about half an hour, Luciana was upset about something and went upstairs to change her clothes so I went up to help her.  Once she was dressed she started to go downstairs.  I was a bit behind her, still in the bedroom, and she slipped off of the top step and did not manage to catch the railing and pitched forward going head over heels the entire way down the stairs.  Eleven steps in all.  She did not roll at all, it was all straight down in the most horrific fashion you can imagine.  It was horrifying.  There was nothing at all that I could do.  She was too far in front of me there was no way to reach her.  Dominica and Liesl could hear the noise and me yelling.

Luciana hit the landing hard and in a terrible position.  I ran down the stairs as quickly as I could safely.  Dominica lept off of the couch forgetting that she had a laptop on her lap and came running but I was to Luciana much faster.  Poor Liesl did not know what to do and just collapsed in the middle of the living room sobbing heavily – she was terrified that Luciana was hurt.

I picked Ciana up in my arms and we tried to determine how bad the damage was.  Dominica immediately noticed that Ciana had blood coming out of her left eye socket.  None of her limbs seemed to be broken.  She was crying heavily so at least we knew that she was partially alright.  Dominica threw on shoes and we took Ciana straight out to the Acadia and they ran to the hospital to take Ciana to the ER.  I noticed when putting her into the car that her mouth was bleeding too.  I asked Ciana where it hurt and she only said her eye, which she would not open so I could not inspect it at all.

I stayed at the house with Liesl and the painting crew.  Liesl took a long time to calm down.  She was really scared.

While they were gone we played more of Wind Waker for a while and got through another “level” of the game.  Then I took some time to buy and download Mario Kart 8 which took more than an hour to download and about half an hour to install.  But we had to get it before the end of the month so that we would get another game free too with it so I did that today.  The Mario Kart games are always good choices.

While it was downloading Dominica got home with Luciana.  They were gone for less than two hours.  They got to the ER which is fortunately really close to use, maybe five minutes away tops, and she was rushed straight in. The doctor only really kept her in for observation, though.  They thought that she was doing okay and were not too concerned.  She got a coloring book there and stickers.

So that made for a very scary morning.  My guess is that this might be the earliest memory that Luciana retains.  We will have to see in ten years if she ends up remembering this.  She was in good spirits when they got home and ran across the parking lot to see me.

This evening we were pretty worn out and did not want to do anything, so we ordered in Chinese.
