July 6, 2013: Dr. Who Marathon Day

Slept in this morning.  It is a holiday weekend and our plan is to do absolutely nothing.  We really need a good, solid weekend of relaxation.  So this morning we did some light cleaning and a lot of playing with the girls.  One of their favourite things is just to have me lie on the bed in our bedroom and Liesl and Luciana come in and jump on me.  Luciana likes to stand on my back and leap off although sometimes she just resorts to body slamming me.  We probably did that for an hour today.

Kyler came over at one and we set to watching about thirteen hours of Doctor Who!  We made it all of the way through the first season and a good chunk into the second season this afternoon and evening.  Liesl watched most of it with us.  She is such a Doctor Who fan.

I’m in a mood to go back and start watching the old shows now.  Netflix is starting to get the old episodes now.  They are missing tons of them but they do have a few.  Enough to get to see many that I’ve not seen before and hopefully some that I’ll remember from my childhood.  It has been a long time since I have watched the Tom Baker or Peter Davidson years, those were really the ones that I grew up on.

It was late so Kyler used the guest bedroom tonight.  Ciana slept in Liesl’s room.  They love getting to do that.

July 5, 2013: Long, Lonely Non-Farm Day

It really, really sucks that today is non-farm payroll and that yesterday was the holiday.  That’s not so much a real holiday.  So I had to be up at five thirty this morning with just two hours of sleep.  I felt pretty crappy.  Only about three hours of sleep the night before.

I got into the office and there was only one other person here.  Very silly for anyone to be here at all but non-farm needs to be covered and I’m overly dedicated so here I am.

It was an incredibly slow day, as expected.  There is almost no one looking to do work on a Friday between a holiday and a weekend.  The place is a ghost town.  Sadly I had a ton of deployments scheduled for the evening so my early morning and late night are busy but the whole middle of the day is completely dead.

So at lunch time I switched to working from home.  I worked a fourteen hour day when most everyone else worked four so I felt pretty burned out.

The moment I was done working, Liesl and I played about an hour of her video game on my desktop, Ankh 3.  We’ve barely been getting any time to play that for weeks.  Need to make sure that we are making a point of getting to spend that time together.

Kyler is coming over tomorrow early afternoon for a Dr. Who marathon.  So we are pretty much taking the day off.

July 4, 2013: D&D Day

Today is our all day Dungeons and Dragons game.  Nothing but D&D all day.  It was around nine when I got up.  It was Luciana who got me up.  I knew that once she was up there was nothing that we were going to be able to do since she would run out into the living room and wake everyone else up to.  So I had to get up and wrangle her into our room.  I think Dominica actually got her up, but I got up with her.  It’s all a bit fuzzy, very little sleep this week.

Kyler and Morgan were already up.  Morgan and I ran to Jack in the Box and picked up breakfast for everyone.  Then back to the house to get the game started up.

It took a little while to get things moving this morning but by late morning we were playing the game again.

We gamed until around seven thirty.  Then Jose and Morgan had to run some errands and were gone until midnight.  The rest of us ended up playing without them.  Those of us left got Subway for dinner to eat while we played.

We played until about two in the morning.  Boy were we tired but it was a lot of fun.  As Rachel said, this was the best Fourth of July ever.

I stayed up talking with Dominica and Kyler about the game until three or later.  They stayed up until four!  Kyler crashed at our house again.  Everyone else headed home between two and two thirty.

July 3, 2013: Dungeons & Dragons Slumber Party

Dominica was up and gone early this morning.  I worked from home for a little bit.  Morgan arrived just after nine.  Liesl was so excited.  I had Liesl dressed and Luciana changed just as Morgan arrived and got her set up and I was out the door by nine fifteen.

I had to swing by Dominica’s office for a few minutes on my way in.  That went really well.  She is off for four day – she doesn’t go back in until Monday.

Got into the office and had a pretty relaxing day.  The market closed at lunch and pretty much no one was getting anything done today.  A nice day to be in the office.

For lunch Dan, Doue and I went to Masala Wok but it wasn’t very good.  Then we got froyo before going back to the office.

This afternoon my desktop supplier swung by the office and dropped off four Dell Optimplex 780s for me to get to Dominica.  Dominica was very relieved to know that I had them in hand.

I came home a little early today although I was pretty much the last one in the office.  I got home and Morgan was still there.  Dominica had just gotten home because of a huge accident that closed down Trinity Mills for a while.  I had been stuck in the traffic there too.  So we all hung out for about an hour then she ran home to try to wrangle everyone up for D&D tonight.

While everyone was out I went on a liquor run to restock.  Found a ton of really awesome stuff. This was a record restocking.

It ended up being really late before we were able to get started.  Kyler was over pretty early, around eight, arriving just minutes after I had gotten home.  Rachel and Jaiden arrived almost three hours later!

While we were waiting for everyone else we introduced Kyler to Dr. Who and managed to watch almost three full episodes before anyone arrived!  Rachel and Jaiden were the first to arrive. Because things were taking so long to get started Morgan and Jose ended up going to Addison’s Fireworks display.  So our first evening was having a really hard time getting started.

We did as much with our characters while were had the time and were ready when everyone was finally in one spot around midnight.  We got into the game and played until after four in the morning when we decided to call it a night and get a little sleep before we get up tomorrow to play all day.

Liesl slept in our room tonight and Luciana slept in her own room.  Everyone else camped out in the living room.

July 2, 2013: Liesl Starts Doing Chores

Today is the last normal work day of the week.  It is an odd week with the celebration of July 4th actually being held on the Fourth itself even though that is a Thursday.  So tomorrow is going to be a short day, Thursday is a holiday and then Friday starts early with non-farm payroll at seven in the morning but nearly everyone will be out of the office so it will be, as far as I know, just me covering it, at least covering it physically from the office.  That’s going to be odd and the office is guaranteed to be effectively empty all day.  Today is also Dominica’s only day at home as she is going to go into the office tomorrow instead of Thursday and Morgan is going to come and stay at the house with the girls tomorrow which we are not telling Liesl about until tonight because she will be so excited that she won’t be able to stand it all day otherwise.

I got into the office this morning.  I left before anyone else was even out of bed.  I worked all morning, nothing special, and skipped lunch today.  I ran down to South Irving to see if I could find my friend selling computers as we have been looking for him for weeks and Dominica’s office is getting into a little bit of a panic about not having them.  So I drove down there just hoping that I could catch him and low and behold, I did!  What a stroke of luck.  So I was able to sit down with him and order some computers.  Dominica was really thrilled that I managed to track him down for her.

Came home a little later than usual today.  Had a bit of work to do at home this evening so mostly was in my office working for a while.  While I worked Liesl came into my office and sat at her desk behind me, fired up her laptop, went into Netflix, found Le Ballon Rouge and watched it again, on her own!

Tomorrow Morgan is coming to watch the girls so we told Liesl that she had to help clean the house so that Morgan could come.  Liesl easily put in a dedicated hour and a half cleaning like crazy to make the house look nice.  She did an amazing job.  She really is a great helper and really knows how to clean!  I can’t believe how big she is getting.  She really did serious cleaning.  This was the first time that she really did a major chore and even when we told her that she had done enough she kept right on working.  I was so proud of her tonight!
