August 13, 2012: Office Moving, Someday

I’m in the office today.  We are on the home stretch in our current office in Las Colinas before moving.  Rumour is that we will be moving (but only a few miles away towards the airport) to new offices there.  Not too surprising as these rumours have been flying around since even before we moved into our current offices.  We’ve been under a constant swirl of “moving” rumors for three full years now and we have not moved a single time in all that time.  In fact, at my current job where I have been for over six year and have moved approximately nine times, I have been at this one particular desk for not that much less than half of my entire time with the company.  So, that means that I am moving only about one sixth as often as I did when we were not constantly under “moving” rumours.  Weird, I know.  The more that we hear that we are going to move the less likely it is that it will actually happen.

This afternoon I had to run to the UPS store around the corner from the office to drop off the package of the Netgear ProSecure UTM 10 firewall and the Netgear ProSafe fifty-two port switch which need to ship up to Danielle in New York for her office renovations.  They have the office nearly done up there with the new walls, new desks, all new colour scheme, coffee station, Otis Spunkmeyer oven, under-desk rack for networking gear and now all they need is this networking gear so that we can get them up and running.  They are hosting SpiceCorps Upstate NY up there very soon and they want all of this in place before then so that everything will look all nice and neat.

After hitting the UPS store I went next door with Dan to Sweet Frog, the new frozen yoghurt place that has just opened up there, to see how it was.  It was okay but not as good as the place that Dominica and I normally use up on Frankford.

Got home this evening and all that we did was work on getting ready for SpiceCorps DFW which is being held at our house tomorrow.  There is so much work to do for that.  We were working on that a bit this past weekend as well.  We are currently looking at sixty RSVPs, which we will not get, but it does imply that we are going to get a very large number of people at our house and we need to be ready.  Should be a really good meeting tomorrow, I am excited (and a bit overwhelmed.)

August 12, 2012: Still Behind

I am so far behind on SGL.  I’ve just been getting busier and busier recently and SGL suffers.  I hate that I am so far behind because I miss writing about the stuff that the girls are doing.  They are growing up so fast and I am not getting the chance to record them, not as much as I would hope to, anyway.  Life just flies by.

Luciana is starting to talk and is so active. She is still taking afternoon naps but they are getting shorter and shorter.  And she is starting to really have hair but is still behind where Liesl was at the same age even though Luciana eats better than Liesl ever did.  They play together a ton now.  They really are partners in crime.

August 10, 2012: Ready for a Family Weekend

New article posted yesterday: Nearly As Good Is Not Better on SMB IT Journal.

Liesl woke us up by running into our bedroom yelling this morning.  She had to use the bathroom but the lights were off so she was in a panic.  It was before six o’clock so we were pretty tired.  Dominica didn’t get up but I decided to just stay up after making sure that Liesl was okay and getting her back to bed.

I worked, showered and then went into the office for eight thirty as I usually do – except I made it on time today, which I often do not.

I was quite busy getting posts in all morning.  For lunch I met up with Chris at Redneck Heaven for shrimp and salads and diet RC Colas.  That’s right, someone actually serves RC Cola still.

The office was really quite slow today.  But, of course, no getting home early.  Not crazy late, but not early.

Really looking forward to my first weekend home with the family.

August 9, 2012: Hot Summer Days

When I left work tonight I got out to the car and the thermometer on the car read 123 degrees in the office parking lot.  That is the highest that I have seen yet.  What is amazing is that I did not feel that hot at all on the walk out to the car and even getting into the car I felt comfortable and did not turn on the air conditioning but just put the windows down.  On the drive home the thermometer dropped to 109 but climbed again to 119.  I’ve never seen a temperature like that in fresh air.

We spent the evening at home.  Dominica cooked vegetarian sausage and peppers with some egg based bread stuff that was pretty good.

We watched some of Shake It Up from Disney Channel tonight.

At one point we all went into Liesl’s room and played in there for a while.  Luciana loves getting put up in Liesl’s new bed and playing up there.  Unfortunately we have to watch her all of the time when she is up there as she is wont to fall out if we don’t pay close attention.  She loves it and we can tell that she really wants to sleep up there.  Liesl wants her too as well.
