November 3, 2011: And….

Medifast Status: Day 185, Down ~67.5lbs

One of the risks of getting behind on SGL posts is that I will completely forget a day (or two, or three.)  Today is one of those days.  Nothing on the calendar, nothing in my notes, nothing in my memory.  I asked Dominica and she could not remember this day either.  I’m pretty sure that it happened as the calendar has the date on it but I don’t remember it at all.  So here we go.  Insanely short post for a day that obviously did not earn anything more.

November 2, 2011: Back to Normal

Medifast Status: Day 184, Down ~67.5lbs

The house is very quiet today.  Everyone is gone.  We are back to just our family again.  It is great having the house with so much done.  We have the windows open now – there are windows that we can open all over the house.  Both sliding doors can be opened.  A window in the play room.  Most importantly – the window in our bedroom.  Having no cross-ventilation for the entire first year of owning this house was a killer.

Having ceiling fans and working lights all over the house makes a huge difference too.  Things are greatly improved.  We are really feeling like we can live in this house now and that the money is not just pouring out the windows.  We are really looking forward to Art coming back next year and putting in another week of working on the house.

November 1, 2011: Dominica Returns, Ralstons Leave

Medifast Status: Day 183, Down ~67.5lbs

I worked from home today as today is the last day with the Ralstons in Texas and Dominica and the girls return from Houston this morning.  Today was the “clean up” stuff from everything that Art has been working on.  The big items getting done today are the televisions going up on the walls.

The television in the playroom is up on the wall.  That’s awesome.  It looks much nicer already.  Sometime soon Dominica and I need to deal with getting some shelves and mounting them to the wall beneath the television so that we can get the old television stand out of the room entirely.  That’s when the huge improvement will come.  We really need space in there.

Art also got the big television in our bedroom mounted up on the wall.  That looks really nice too.  Where it was before was not so bad as we plan to keep the television stand that is located there even now that the television is not on it but the television was too low and we could not see it from our bed because the back of the couch was in the way.  Now that the television stand is free of the television itself we were able to put the receiver up there and the speakers.  Hardly an amazing setup but it looks nice and should be really usable.

We did a search for speaker wires so that we could get the stereo actually up and running but failed to locate any.  So the television looks great but makes no sound for the time being.

The Ralstons hung out tonight until quite late.  They attempted to take the theatre furniture with them but after getting most of it into their rented van they decided that it just was not going to fit so it was all unloaded and brought back into the house.  Too bad, it almost managed to make it away.

It was after ten when they hit the road to see how far that they could drive tonight.  They are going to have a very long trip.

October 31, 2011: Happy Halloween

Medifast Status: Day 182, Down ~67.5lbs

Happy Halloween everyone.  Today would have been my grandmother’s birthday.  She will long have her birthday remember because she was born on a non-floating holiday.  I’m as likely to remember her birthday as I am to remember my own.

I was in the office during the day today and Art continued working on the house.  It is really coming along.  At this point we are down to mostly just the “little” stuff that is lingering until the end.  We went out and tried to get the windows so that we could take out the wall behind the bar and put in a huge window instead but no one in the area carried anything like what we needed so we were out of luck there.  We also tried to get a new front door but they were all so expensive and I really do not want to be picking out a front door without Dominica there to help in making the decision.  It is too much money for something that she might not be happy with.

So the decision was to instead rip out the atrium which we also really needed to have done.  The floor in there is rotted and dangerous and we cannot allow Liesl to go out there to play because of it.  So there is no point in it even existing in its current state. Once the old wood is all gone then maybe we can begin working on a plan to get the ground raked and then bring in the sand and gravel and make a solid floor so that we can really start to do something with it.

This evening was the trick or treating.  We got very few visitors but we did have a few.  Our neighbourhood is not loaded with kids and is not well lit which does not make for the best area for candy begging.

Dominica said that Liesl had a really good time in Houston.  She loved trick or treating last year and that was when she was not yet two years old!  Now that she is nearly three she is really big enough to be able to do it effectively.  This year she was dressed up as a 1960s dancer as were all of her cousins with Garrett dressed as John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.  Everything went well until someone jumped out and really, really scared Garrett and Liesl and they did not want to trick or treat anymore.  Hopefully that does not leave a sour taste for next year.

The family will be coming back home tomorrow.  The Ralstons decided that they are going to leave tomorrow night, late, as mostly everything is done and they need to get back to New York.  They are going to make an attempt at taking the theater furniture with them.  We will be very excited to get it out of the house.  We love it, we just do not have the space for it.  It does not work in this house at all and having it jammed into the play room is not making things any better in that tiny space.  On a normal day we need half of the seating capacity that we have in there and twice the play room.

October 30, 2011: Weight Loss Again

Medifast Status: Day 181, Down ~67.5lbs

I had a huge drop in weight today.  This week has been great for my diet.  Having two one pound loss days and one pound and a half day is awesome.  I feel like maybe I am getting back on track to some degree.  Being this far along allows for an awful lot of stalling.

We didn’t know what day was going to be Halloween Trick or Treating around Carrollton so we bought candy last night and had it ready for tonight as well.  No kids came, however.  So it must be tomorrow night, the same as it is in Houston.  Dominica and the girls are staying in Houston until Tuesday morning so that they can trick or treat tomorrow night.  She is barely getting to see the Ralstons from how long she is gone.

I did a bit of homework today.  I can’t wait until this class is over.  This is, by far, the worst class that I have taken at RIT yet.
