October 29, 2011: Quiet Weekend with the Ralstons

Medifast Status: Day 180, Down ~66lbs

This weekend is a mix of house work and home work – isn’t that just confusing to say?  We also hung out and relaxed quite a bit today.  Not the busiest of days.

I am sadly record-breakingly behind on SGL posts.  This month has been truly insane both at work and at home and at school.  I’m trying hard to get caught back up.  Sorry everyone!

Dominica reports that everyone is having a good time down in Houston.

October 28, 2011: Dominica Leaves for Halloween Weekend

Medifast Status: Day 179, Down ~66lbs

And down another pound!

I am in the office today and this morning Dominica and the girls packed up and headed on down to Houston to spend the Halloween weekend down there.  We had planned the Halloween weekend long before the Ralstons were coming to visit and it was the only time that we could fit everything in.

This evening, after getting home from work, we did some quick shopping at Target and then went back to the house and watched Casino Royale which I have not seen in quite a while.  That really is an excellent James Bond film.

October 27, 2011: Big House Work Day

Medifast Status: Day 178, Down ~65lbs

Today was one of the big ones for the house.  Art got the attic put together which includes a new floor, shelves, lights and the ladder being fixed.  What a huge change that is for our house.  Suddenly the attic is usable.  We can climb up there and walk around without risk of falling through the floor.

Being able to use the attic is going to make the garage usable too.  Art reorganized the garage today and moved a ton of stuff up to the attic too.  So the new attic shelves are already quite a bit in use.  There is just tons and tons of storage space up there now, though, so we are really excited to get to start taking anything and everything up there to get it out of the way.  The house and the garage are so full of boxes and all kinds of crazy stuff that we have been unable to move.

Now the big project is going to be moving everything up to the attic and getting everything sorted up there.  Mostly it is a huge collection of empty boxes.  We like to keep boxes but they pile up quickly.  We move so often that it makes sense to always have them, though.

While he was working on the attic, Art was also able to put down some of the extra insulation that we still have so the house should stay a bit warmer (or cooler) too.  The area over my office was completely uninsulated following the cessation of office construction so that has been killing me in there over the summer.  Plus the attic stairs have been fixed so now the attic is not wide open to the uninsulated garage.  Just the attic work alone will dramatically change the heating and cooling coefficients of the house.

Dominica and Danielle went out and did some dress shopping today so that Dominica is ready for the Charity Classic event at La Cima that we are attending next week.

October 26, 2011: Taking the Ralstons to La Cima

Medifast Status: Day 177, Down ~65lbs

Finally down another pound!

I was in the office today.  Lots of work going on at the house while I am gone during the day.

This evening Dominica, the girls and the Ralstons drove down to La Cima so that we could all do dinner there.  Tonight is Pasta Night which is a nice time to go.  They actually got there a bit before me.  Getting out of the office on time is just a pipe dream.  Even on the best of occasions it doesn’t work out very well.

Dinner was nice.  We are on our home stretch with La Cima.  We put in our thirty day notice eight days ago so we have just three weeks left as members there.  We are pretty upset and just don’t find it to be the kind of place where we want to spend all of our time anymore.  It is very sad as this has been our “home away from home” for about a year and a half and we were really intending to remain here for a very long time to come.

It was a very quiet night at the club.  None of our normal Wednesday night crew was able to make it tonight so it was the perfect time to come with the Ralstons.   Dominica and I still had a meal to use too and this was our last real opportunity in October to use it.

After dinner it was back to the house and off to bed.

October 25, 2011: Luciana’s Six Month Checkup

Medifast Status: Day 176, Down ~64lbs

Busy day today.  I ended up being home for much of the day.  Heavy work this morning at the office while Art worked on the house.  Dominica and Danielle busied themselves with the kids, for the most part.

This afternoon there were numerous errands to be handled.  I stayed home with Liesl while Dominica took Luciana to her doctor’s appointment.  Everything went well there.  Luciana is a happy, healthy baby who is now in the 85th percentile for her age in size!  Not something that we could ever say about Liesl.  Luciana is already catching up with Liesl at a crazy pace.  Standing side by side, Luciana comes up to the middle of Liesl’s shoulder.  Luciana is six months old in today and Liesl is three years in one month so Luciana is making some serious progress.

After the doctor appointment Dominica took the Acadia into the shop to get its second oil change.  We are averaging an oil change every five and a half months on that vehicle.  We really do not drive it very often.  Considering that when we do drive it it is almost certainly going to be a trip to either Houston or New York there have been surprisingly few miles put on to it around the Dallas area.

This evening we had a brief call with Danielle and I in one room and Dominica dialing in from her desk in the play room.  It was a quick call tonight and we were all able to hang out this evening.

Already the house is much different with new lights and ceiling fans going in.  What a difference that is going to make.  We have been living with so many of the most basic things in the house broken for so long.
