May 21, 2011: Quiet Weekend, Fable

Medifast Status: Day 19, Down ~16 lbs

Today is a quiet family day at home.  I am on call for the office this weekend so we are tied down a bit anyway.  We did a lot of house cleaning today and the place is looking pretty good.

It was nice to have some relaxing time just us.  I’m very far behind on SGL.  What little free time that I’ve had is being spent with Luciana, Liesl and getting work done.

Dominica had to run out to do some shopping this morning which gave me some quiet time all by myself at home with a sleeping baby.  I did a bit of cleaning in the garage and had found the XBOX 360 and the games so I spent some time getting it hooked back up – for the first time in a very long time.  I’ve missed my XBOX.

I’ve been nearly at the end of Fable for quite some time but just haven’t had a chance to play it in months.  Maybe in over a year.  I’ve been wanting to wrap it up and move on to something new forever but just haven’t had the time to put in the effort.

It is nice to get to play it again.  I ended up playing it most of the evening.  It took quite some effort to get back into it because it is action oriented a lot more than Fable II was.  Unfortunately I don’t even remember half of the story at this point so following along is rather harder than expected.

May 20, 2011: Medifast Check In Number 2

Medifast Status: Day 18, Down ~16 lbs

I managed to make it in to my Medifast training session during lunch today.  It’s been a week and a half since my last appointment.  The summation is that I am doing well.  My ketosis levels are much improved from last week and my weight loss is now at a healthy, sustainable level.  My progress is good and I am roughly on target.  The slight increase in my food intake in the last week appears to be what I needed to keep me from “starving” even though I feel roughly the same no matter what I am eating.

I’ve discovered that there are a number of really interesting games available for my iPhone.  Notably the first three Final Fantasy games are now available as are two games that are an offshoot of the Assassins Creed family.  Unfortunately for me, I’ve already completely the first three Final Fantasy games recently on the Nintendo DS or else these would be perfect for me.  The later games which I am looking to play are not yet available on the iOS platform.  The Assassins Creed titles definitely interest me and I have downloaded one of them to give it a try.

I’m hoping that more Square-Enix titles like later Final Fantasy games and Dragon Question games and other LucasArts games like Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max and later Monkey Island titles make it to the iOS platform.  That would really be great.

These games really show how cool the platform would be if combined for the iPhone, iPod, iPad and… AppleTV.  I’d love to be able to take these games with me but play them on my Apple TV when I am at home too.  The AppleTV would be an awesome way to play many of these classics in a more traditional setting.  I’d buy tons of classic games that way.  These older style games are perfect examples of where this technology would really play well today and pave the way for a big move into the serious game market of tomorrow.

May 19, 2011: Rescheduled Medifast Appointment

Medifast Status: Day 17, Down ~15.5 lbs

Liesl did surprisingly well today with dad having gone back to New York yesterday.  She really loves having him here and we feared that today would be a total disaster but she did well.

I was supposed to have my Medifast training session today during the lunch window but when I went in they had accidentally double booked me.  I’m very close so I just rescheduled for tomorrow and ran home to see Dominica, Liesl and Luciana for an hour and then went back down to the office.

I came home and had a two hour conference call before being able to spend some time with the family.  Overall today was a slow day in the Miller household.

May 18, 2011: Dad Returns to New York

Medifast Status: Day 16, Down ~15.5 lbs

This morning was my first “up” fluctuation on my wait.  Probably just the error margin of the cheap bathroom scale that I am using each day.  Nothing to be concerned about.  I hope.  I don’t feel any differently today so I’m hoping that that means that I am continuing to burn calories about the same that I was doing so previously.

I got up fairly early today.  I have been doing this a lot recently as Luciana likes to wake me up around five thirty to six each day.  At that point I might as well just get up.  Getting only three to five hours of sleep each night has to be negatively impacting my ability to lose weight.  You lose the most weight when getting a proper amount of sleep.

I worked from home until a quarter after ten when dad and I drove out to go to the airport.  From there I drove in to the office.

I managed to get home at a pretty decent hour today and spent the evening with the family.

May 17, 2011: Dad’s Last Day in Texas

Medifast Status: Day 15, Down ~16 lbs

Today is dad’s last day in Dallas.  He is flying back home tomorrow morning.  At least I was home on Sunday and he and I were able to take that class together yesterday.

Dad and Dominica are just staying home today to hang out with the girls.  I’m at the office all day.

Dad did some testing of our electric in the house which has been tripping my APC UPS over and over again and discovered that we have an open ground throughout the entire house.  Just great.  Our electric is never going to be in order, I swear.

I called OnCor and they came out this evening but said that this time the issue was inside of the house, not at the street like it was in January.  So I called our electricians to get them to come out and take a look since they have not even finished with the work that they were supposed to have done months ago yet.  They can’t make it out until tomorrow or the next day, they say.  We will see when they actually arrive.

I was stuck working on the phone for a while this evening.  When that was done we ate at home and spent the evening visiting.  I’ll be working from home tomorrow morning until I take dad to the airport.
