May 16, 2011: Microsoft Web Camp

Medifast Status: Day 14, Down ~14 lbs (one stone)

This is my two week mark with Medifast and I am down a full stone.  So far so good.

Today is dad and my day at Microsoft’s Web Camp at their Las Colinas training center.  We signed up for this months ago.  I managed to get the day “off” from work so that I could take the class.  I am still actually working today but all remote and as little as necessary so that I can pay attention in the class.  The class is focused on Microsoft’s current web development tools and techniques like MVC, JQuery and Web Matrix.

We got to the class a little before eight thirty and got signed in and sat right up front.  They had breakfast available to us but on Medifast there was nothing there that I could eat.  Once again, for the third time in four days, my timing was horrible on starting my diet right at this particular time.

Class got started right away and boy was it an intense one.  Microsoft always does an excellent job with their classes, they are such a pleasure to attend.  They covered a lot of stuff and I think that we both learned quite a bit.  I am very glad that I was able to go in and spend my time in the class.

For lunch they catered in some amazing looking pizza and salads.  At least they had salads so I was able to partake of that.  The salad was good but boy did the pizza look amazing.  I am really craving bread pretty significantly.  That is the thing that I miss most on the diet.

After class wrapped up at four dad and I went to Rockfish and ordered take out.  We figured that that would be fast and easy and eliminate the overhead of trying to decide what to do for dinner after we got back home.  We were already out and basically right across the street so it was just too easy to pass up.

We had dinner at the house and just hung out at home for the evening.

May 15, 2011: Liesl in the Park

Medifast Status: Day 13, Down ~14 lbs

Today is my only weekend day this week as I was in the office for a full eight hours yesterday.  So today was our day to just relax.

After having such a nice time on our walk last night, we decided to walk to the park and relax there this afternoon.  We took the double stroller again and Liesl played on the toddler playground for quite a while, maybe an hour.  We (everyone but me that is) got ice cream from the ice cream cart that stopped by the park.   It was a busy day in the park today.  Everyone seemed to agree that the weather was perfect for families to come out and enjoy the park.

It was really nice to get a relaxing day without much of anything going on.  This afternoon we discovered that after a month and a half that the Sony Playstation Network is back up and that means that our Netflix is working in the living room again and we were able to use it to actually watch something.  We also discovered that Dr. Who Season Five was available to watch instantly – and that the watch instantly was actually in HD even though there were only DVDs released, so streaming it actually looks noticeably better than having the DVDs in hand.

So we introduced dad to the new Dr. Who and while it is not his favourite show ever, he did enjoy it and is thinking about going home in a few days and watching it on Netflix too.

We watched it for most of the evening and finished off the season.  Now we just have to wait for Season Six to release (it only just started showing in the UK, so it might be a while.)  We did discover that the new season of Torchwood is about to begin in July.  We are very excited about that.

May 14, 2011: Spring DR Test

Medifast Status: Day 12, Down ~13 lbs

Very little sleep for me last night.  I got up at six this morning and was out the door by seven.  Today is the disaster recovery test at the office and the entire office has to be in for the full day.  I was at the office before seven thirty.

The thing about disaster recovery testing is that when I’m needed, I’m really needed, but for nearly the entire day there is nothing for me to do at all.  So it is an extremely slow, boring day where I am chained to my desk but don’t really have much to do.  At least it allowed me to do some serious catchup on SGL.

There was a ton of food at the office today.  Sadly, none of it was anything that I could eat.  Boy did it look good, though.  Bagels, pizza, Indian sweets, cookies, etc.  It just kept coming and coming.  I definitely picked the wrong time to start my diet.  I’m missing several La Cima events and tons of other things.  I guess that there really is never a right time, but this seems to be pretty bad.

I worked through lunch today but was able to jet out of the office around three thirty.  Not too bad.  I was still on call all evening, which was a lot of calls, but at least I got to go home and see dad and the family for a bit.

We went out to Remington’s Fish Grill (or something like that) in Addison right as they opened at five.  Dinner was great, we really like that restaurant and it was not too expensive either.  With Dominica about to start Medifast (or a modified version close to it) and me being on it now we will definitely be looking for restaurants able to accommodate us and eating at the same few places over and over again will rapidly get old.

We were able to have a nice, relaxing evening at home since I had gotten home so early and we had managed to get out and to get dinner so quickly.

We went out for a walk to the Carrollton Greenway.  It wasn’t a very long walk but it was nice to get out and get a little exercise.  We took the girls out in their new double stroller which was cool.  They both seemed to really enjoy it.  We got to walk through the neighbourhood and give dad an idea of what the houses around us are like, too.

May 13, 2011: Arctic Char at Rockfish

Medifast Status: Day 11, Down ~12 lbs

It’s Friday but tomorrow is the big disaster recovery / continuity of business test for this season at the office so I have to be in the office all day.  It will be a short weekend for me.

Before lunch I went over to my Medifast office and picked up some additional food items so that I would have more variety and more drink options to get my through.  I need more selection to make it easier and I am rapidly finding that I prefer to use drinks rather than food items for many of my meals.  Once you lose the desire to eat you really just want it to be as quick and easy as possible.

For lunch today the family came down and met me at Rockfish.  Dad hasn’t been to Rockfish yet but he loves seafood so this should be a great restaurant for him.

I was very excited to learn today that Rockfish now has arctic char, one of my favourite fish.  I have never found arctic char outside of that one restaurant in Walt Disney World that Dominica and I discovered a few years ago.

I managed to get out of work at a pretty decent time tonight and I rushed home as I am getting very little family time over the weekend.

May 12, 2011: Liesl has Papa Back

Medifast Status: Day 10, Down ~10 lbs

Good progress on the diet, even with going out to eat at the club again last night.  Averaging one pound per day for ten days is not bad at all. I sure wish that I could keep this up for the long term.  This diet would go by in no time at all.

Today is dad’s first full day in Texas.  Yesterday was six months, to the day, from the last time that he traveled down to Texas.

It was a busy day at the office today.  I went home for lunch and we just ate at the house.  Then it was back to work.  Dad has been very busy playing with Liesl all morning.  Liesl is very, very excited to have her papa back and demands every available second of his time (and a little more.)

Just a relaxing evening at home tonight.
