August 6, 2003: Bubblegum Blizzard

Mice numbers 6 and 7 were caught last night. Maybe we are actually getting to the end of them by now. Well, we can hope at least.

Today I have to head back down to Washington for a couple of days because I didn’t manage to get there over the weekend. This will be my first long trip in the “6”. I worked around the house a little bit this morning and spent some time with Min before she went off to her second day at Youngs and Linfoot. She and I had lunch at the Geneseo Family Restaurant before she went to work. She won’t be real busy with stuff for them for at least a week so we took the chance to see each other for a little bit.

The carpenters came and did some more work on our deck this morning. The deck is now completely built but still needs to be painted. They couldn’t paint it today though because it was pouring down rain. I am just happy to finally have a deck that we can really use and not look funny or have parts laying all around it. Min has been iching to get the lawn bar put together and set out on the deck. Maybe she and Andy will get around to getting that done before I get back. That would be nice. That bar set takes up a ton of garage space that we really need so that we can get two cars into the garage.

I hit the road for DC around 3:30 and arrived at the Comfort Inn at 10:00. Easy drive and I stopped at Taco Bell for dinner and Dairy Queen for a Bubblegum Blizzard (Min and Andy think that bubblegum ice cream is gross.) Min got a call about a part time job today and she went off to have an interview. She thinks that it went really well so we should hear something about that sometime pretty soon.

I was supposed to be going to DC today but I needed to wait for some software to be shipped and it didn’t arrive until today so I get to hold off until tomorrow on my travels. I am happy because I have gotten so little time to be at the new house that I appreciate every opportunity. I did catch two more mice today. That is the fourth and fifth mice so far. This is beginning to be an epidemic.

Min started at Youngs and Linfoot today. She only worked for a couple of hours though. Mostly I got to relax today but Min and I had to run some errands. So in the afternoon we ran to the Verizon store and my parents’ house and my Aunt and Uncle’s house and then up to Home Depot to exchange some stuff for the house. We got back from Home Depot and Andy installed a bunch of bathroom hardware for us. The house is slowly taking shape. Tomorrow we hope to have blinds and stuff on most of the windows. It sucks not being able to control the sunlight right now. We did manage to locate most of the critical kitchen supplied today. We have been dying for some silverware.

It’s another Monday. Min was supposed to start working at Youngs and Linfoot in Geneseo today but they weren’t ready for her so we are pushing that off until tomorrow. Andy is liking his new job out in Buffalo at BOC Edwards. But the commute is a killer.

Today was mostly more work around the house and trying to account for all of the DVDs that got shipped over to here. I am in the process of verifying the existence of all of the movies and adding Dominica’s movies into the collection. We have decided that it is time for us to combine the collection and sell off all of the doubles. Luckily there really aren’t all that many doubles. Just about eight or so. The total collection now is up around 670 movies.

While Min and I were out of town, Andy said that he heard more mice in the walls around the stairs going to the cellar. So yesterday, he and Min went to Walmart and picked up a Mouse Cube humane trap. We set it out on the stairs and we caught two more mice last night.

Today is all day driving day. After the blow out last night, Min and I tried very hard all day to get a wheel for the car (the tire blew AND the rim cracked) but we weren’t able to find anything. So we finally gave up and decided to just drive back to New York on the donut. Luckily, Ralph’s Country Store switched the tires around for us so that the donut is on the back so that we can drive a lot more easily. So we started the very long trek from North Carolina to New York. It ended up taking 15 hours of driving. Ugh.
