May 16, 2018: Windows 1803

My morning started with loads and loads of phone calls coming in. Some days are just like this. A lot of this mornings discussion was about Microsoft’s Windows 10 1803 update that does not work with RDS and SAP properly. Microsoft has been pushing out the update without permission, even when it is “blocked” officially in settings. As it rolls out, it kills SAP completely. So it has become a major project to stop it.

I spent a lot of the day today writing scripts that go into Windows’ registry and actually disable the 1803 update. What a mess. It’s shocking that anyone is still writing “business” software for Windows given how it works now.

That summed up my day.

May 15, 2018: Another Late Night

Tuesday. Starting the morning with a customer dealing with a Spiceworks outage.

Worked all day. Nothing to really report.

Jeremy started driving down to Texas today for a wedding.

I was up very late tonight working with Joy. She starts work around midnight, my time, so that causes some very late nights for me.

May 14, 2018: One Month In

Monday. Another busy day. This month has just been so crazy. Every work day is just as much as I can handle trying to keep up. All the work and stress, there is just so little to say about what I’ve been doing. I am at my desk all day, every day. Morning, noon, and night.

I managed to get some Taco Bell for lunch today while I was already out running errands.

Had to run to the bank again this afternoon. All of that kind of stuff is really eating up my time, too.

We had a Hyper-V server fail at a customer today because someone had set it up with a SAN and created risk that shouldn’t be there. So once again, at midnight, I am up supporting systems that are messed up because of something before my time.

May 13, 2018: Mother’s Day

Sunday. Truman is here with us in Dallas.

This morning, Liesl and I played Skyrim together all morning. When we were done, Luciana played Stardew Valley.

For mother’s day, we got Pakistani take away, Dominica’s favourite. Paneer tika masala. Paul cooked a pineapple upside down cake.

Did some work tonight. Did our first Windows Admin Center (WAC) deployment tonight.

Tonight we watched Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

May 12, 2018: Big Work Saturday

Saturday. Slept in this morning. Had to be up working on an outage in Atlanta mid day. That took a bit of my day. I kept on the desk working all day. It was a busy day, might as well just been a normal work day.

The girls started watching Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone on their own tonight. We’ve been watching the movies too slowly for them so they are watching them again.

I put the kids to bed tonight and read them their bedtime reading. We’ve been reading several different books, depending on what the girls are in the mood for.
