Today our shower in our “bedroom” at the hotel had its drain back up and started to flood the room. Thank goodness for tile floors, I guess. We were in a panic, but we had the best plumbing experience today. Our plumber was over in just TEN MINUTES to get everything fixed.

This is the day that I often use as an example of “nicatime”. People say this often and foreigners are often frustrated by the lack of firm schedules in Nicaragua. But in reality, “nicatime” often means “as quickly as possible”, instead of the American system of “I’ll take much longer than necessary in order to reliably schedule a time that we can almost certainly commit to.” Both systems work, but Americans often see the lack of schedules in Nicaragua as things taking a long time, when in reality, it seems that things are done way faster here, but far less predictably. Just like with computer programs: the ability to predict the time to accomplish a task comes at the cost of completing that task quickly. Scheduling has overhead, often a lot of it.
