June 19, 2017: Dallas Heat Remains

We got some rain this Monday morning.  Not a lot, but it was a thunderstorm and a light rain till about ten thirty.  Not enough to really cool us off, though.  We had a heat index of 111F last night.  It’s been hot in Dallas.

Luciana is very close to losing her third tooth now.  It’s loose and going to come out soon.  She is growing up very quickly.

We had Taco Bell today!

This evening, Dominica and I watched some 30 Rock, one of our all time favourite shows.

June 18, 2017: Father’s Day

Sunday and Father’s Day.  I was the first one up at eight, Dominica got up not long afterwards.  I spent the morning working on my DuoLingo practice.  With my Spanish, it now takes over twenty lessons per day just to maintain my current level!  That’s exhausting, but boy can I tell that I am improving.

The girls got up around ten.  Luciana came first to my office to give me a father’s day card that she made.  Liesl gave me hers half an hour later.

It’s another hot day today, heat index close to 110.  It has been a very hot week.

Liesl (with Dominica’s help) made me breakfast this morning, like she did on my birthday.  It was cinnamon toast, which is her one meal that she knows how to make special.  It was very tasty.

Liesl and Rachel had “band practice” today.  It’s been six months since they last did that.  Liesl and Luciana were so excited that they painted their nails in band colours.

Liesl and I played Overcooked today on Steam for a while and did incredibly well. Today might be our most successful day of knocking out three stars on levels.  We probably completed at least five levels!  We are experts at that game, now.  Of course, we have about fifty five hours of game time on it, too.  So we have definitely practiced.

We ended up taking a break and playing Overcooked again later.  Today was our best results day of all time completely loads of levels and unlocking the six tier of levels.  Liesl and I playing alone managed to get three stars (the top ranking) on a few of the hard levels on our very first try!

Shawn took Hyde to his parents’ place this afternoon.  We will be without the dog for at least several days.

Rachel left to drive down to Austin this afternoon.  Shawn had to work but left around midnight to drive down as well. So we have an empty house for a few days, again.

Dominica and I watched a little 30 Rock before going to bed at a mostly reasonable time.

June 17, 2017: Binging the Ranch Season Three

Saturday.  Today was working on the Borntrager US website and binge watching the third season of The Ranch that had released last night.  We only barely managed to get started on the show yesterday so had nearly nine episodes to watch today.  The entire season is only ten episodes.

Liesl spent the whole day with Hyde, the dog that has moved in with us.  She made him a blanketed space in the living room and spent the whole day sharing the blanket with him on the floor.  She loved it.  They had a great time snuggling together and playing her Nintendo 3DS.  She is still addicted to Tomodachi Life or whatever that is.  She has been playing it nearly all week, although it is really Luciana’s game.

Dominica made egg sandwiches for lunch today.  Then in the afternoon she whipped up home made cinnamon rolls.  Not a huge batch like last time, just a smaller one this time so that we could eat it all in one day and not try to save any for tomorrow because they are so much better on the first day.  Not a kind of food that you want to save.

Rachel and Shawn were in and out today, but mostly out.  They both had Father’s Day activities elsewhere and Shawn had to work tonight.

I am on day nine of my streak with DuoLingo.  I’m working really hard on my Spanish.  I completed the Italian course over the winter.  The Spanish one is much larger; it is the most popular course on DuoLingo.  So getting through this is so much more effort.

I played some Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing with the girls.  We have nearly “beaten” the game for the second time after the game got totally reset on us.  We are just a few races away from earning back every track, driver and song that is available.

Tonight Dominica and I watched Tina Fey’s movie Whiskey Tango Foxtrot from a few years ago that is now available on Netflix.  It is a biographical story of a reporter that went to Afghanistan in 2003.

It was one when we finally headed off to bed.

June 16, 2017: Playground Again

I got up and worked all morning.  It is Friday.  The week of heat is continuing.  We’ve had nearly a full week of three digit heat index.

This afternoon the girls and I went out to the playground again.  This time we went to Taco Bell first so that I would have food to eat while they were there.  A better use of my time.

It was super hot again, but once they acclimated to the heat, both girls had a great time.  They recognized friends from yesterday and were playing with them straight away.  And they already knew about the water fountain, so we used that for the entire time.

It was not as busy today as it was yesterday.  Must be because it is Friday.  Towards the end, we were the only ones there.  But we got sun and air and exercise.  The girls were worn out and ready to head home when we were done.

Shawn and Rachel moved back in today.  Technically Rachel never left, but she basically left.  But now she’s back.  Or at least, technically back.  And Hyde, Shawn’s dog, has moved in as well.  So we saw them some today, but Rachel had band practice in Grapevine so was gone pretty much all evening and Shawn had to work.  The girls are very excited that there is a dog in the house.

Netflix’s original sitcom The Ranch‘s third season released today so we sat down and between all of the interruptions that we normally get around here, we managed to make it through one and a half episodes of it before it was time to go to bed.  Maybe we will get to watch some of it tomorrow.
