May 13, 2017: Weekend in Texas

Saturday.  Our first weekend in the Dallas home.  The house is getting back into shape and it is feeling decently livable at this point.  The girls’ room is looking good and they are really enjoying having their space again and loads of toys.  They are quiet and off on their own nearly all of the time.  They are so much more able to entertain themselves when here at the house.

We went nowhere today.  I spent much of the day just working in the office.  Mostly focused on updating website content today.  I’m so thankful for having my own office again.  It is so comfortable to be able to work in here.  It is quiet and I have a good desktop setup.  It has been years since I had a good ability to work like this.

I will be gone in Louisiana all next week, so this is my only down time here at the house until next weekend.

I did some web work with Dominica today.  We spent most of the day hanging out.

May 12, 2017: Friday Before VeeamOn

Friday.  Again, not a lot of sleep last night.  Still running on a full week without getting a full night’s sleep.  Had to get up this morning because I was needed for a conference call.

I have a busy weekend to get ready for the conference in New Orleans on Monday.  No rest for me around here.

Dominica made her “famous” egg and cheese sandwiches today with the side of potato and carrot hash.  She has started making these all of the time.

May 11, 2017: Installing Korora

Short night last night.  Worked with Sean and David until four in the morning.  I’ve not gotten good sleep all week. Very tired.

This morning I started the day by finishing the installation of my “new” desktop over to Korora 25.  So far, I really like it.  The material design look and feel is really slick.

Dominica made breakfast this morning.

We got some really heavy rain in Dallas this afternoon.  We made plans today to go up to Missouri on Dominica’s birthday and to stay with Paul so that we can see the eclipse.  It is going to be in the zone of totality right over Paul’s house.  It’s perfect.  And Jared is taking his family to the area too, so we can all meet up there.  That will be a really neat trip.

May 10, 2017: Kicking Off New Projects

Today I got my desk set up enough and a wired connection for me to use here in the Texas house and now I am getting twice the Internet speeds that I was getting before.  So much better.

We spent most of the morning without power as Rachael had not dealt with paying the power bill.  So we had a fun morning of trying to figure out how to get that turned back on.  This is going to be fun.

I got my office phone set up in the winter office, so I can easily make and take calls now.  Very handy.

I also set up a desk phone for Dominica.  The girls practiced using it to call dad, too.

I installed openSuse Tumbleweed on the desktop that Michael had given to me while I was in New York.  So now I have a full, working desktop in my winter office at the standing desk.  It is pretty nice.

I had tuna salad sandwiches for lunch today.

It is all of the little things today.  After lunch I set up the nVidia Shield so that we can watch movies through it.

Salads for dinner.  Then Sean and David came over to work at the house this evening.  They brought wine so we got to hang out.

Ended up installing Korora 25 on my desktop tonight.  I’m testing a few things out to try to see what I end up liking the best.

We ended up working until four in the morning!

May 9, 2017: Sparkle Party

Had breakfast at Paul’s house this morning, and then we were on the road driving south to Dallas.  We are looking forward to getting back to our house.

After a long day of driving, we arrived in Dallas.  We walked into a house that was completely destroyed. It is impossible to really describe how bad things were at the house.  The whole house was completely covered in glitter, paper, and was just a total mess.  All of it.  It was jaw droppingly bad.  We had no idea how to react.

Rachel actually ran away just before we got to the house, and didn’t come home today, to avoid us.  Why she didn’t just clean the house, I have no idea.

It was so bad that we had to drop everything and spend the entire evening doing nothing but cleaning before we could even use the house.  We put in a solid two hours of cleaning.  Just what we need.  We have rushed back to the US so that I could get right to work on so many things that need me.  Time is super critical, or we would have remained in Europe longer (much longer.)  This is a major problem as we needed to get here and get straight to work.  We were not prepared to arrive and start making the house liveable.

So this turned into a pretty bad night.  It is going to take forever to clean the house.  There are drinks all over the house with mold in them.  Spoiled food everywhere.  It’s so bad.

I did manage to get a computer up on the desk in my office (what will come to be known as the “winter office”.)

Tomorrow is going to be a lot of work cleaning.
