May 22, 2017: Larva Swarm

Monday.  For a change of pace I am actually at home in Dallas for a little bit.  This is nice.

This morning Dominica discovered some kind of larva that looked like that of flies, swarming into the house through the atrium door and the cracks around it.

We spent nearly the whole morning dealing with this new infestation.  They were everywhere, hundreds of them.  It was so gross.  Something about the weather or something has caused them to attack us in this one spot.  They often came five or six at a time and if you looked away they would sneak past you.

I have no idea what was driving them to enter the house, and all in a single spot, and all to try to cross from the atrium and head for the far side of the kitchen, it was truly bizarre.

It took all morning to get the swarm under control.  I was in pain from bending over to pop one after another.  We had chemicals all over the floor but that did relatively little to slow them down.

Later in the day I worked from my office, the one just off of the kitchen, and had to come out continuously to keep an eye on them to see if any more would come in.  Just disgusting.  I’ve never seen anything like this in my entire life.

We eventually managed to get things under control and we think that the assault on the house and ceased.  But why did it start, why did it stop, will it happen again?  We have no idea.

Liesl and I played some Overcooked tonight, just the two of us.  We are going through different levels trying to knock out stars that we have been unable to get previously.

For dinner tonight Dominica made pancakes.

May 21, 2017: Sunday at Home

Sunday.  We got up this morning and hung out for a while.  This afternoon the Restoronix team came over and we worked all evening.

Dominica made crispy tilapia for dinner tonight, roasted broccoli with garlic and soy sauce, and Red Lobster biscuits, and baked a banana cake.

Dominica and Rachel went out to The Church tonight.  Dominica was ready early.  Rachel, as is often the case, was running a bit late and by the time that they made it out there it was only about one hour to last call.

The girls and I did some video gaming.  Racing with Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing!

May 20, 2017: Back Home for the Weekend

Saturday.  Very ready for some time at our home in Texas.  I have been on the go for so long, I just need time to relax and settle in.  The family has been here all week while I have been in New Orleans, so they are used to being home already.

The girls got their Minecraft Redstone Nightlights working, that they got for Christmas.  They love them.

Rachel actually popped by today.  This is just about the first that I have seen her since January.

This evening Sean and David came over and we worked until very late at night again.

May 19, 2017: Flying from NOLA to Dallas

New Orleans has been a fun week, but it is time to get home to my family in Dallas.  I got up, packed, and called an Uber to take me to the airport to catch my Spirit flight back up to Dallas.

On the way in the Uber, I got to see the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee that was making all of the national news today.  So that was a neat bit of history to get to witness first hand.

On the Flight to Dallas

Flight back home was quick and easy.  And I have this schnazzy green sparkly fedora that I got to wear, too.  The girls will love that when I get home.  I had terrible allergies bothering me today, though.  So while the flight was good, I was feeling pretty under the weather.

Spent the afternoon with the family.  Very glad to be home.

May 18, 2017: VeeamOn Party

Today is the last day of the VeeamOn Conference in New Orleans.  I will be flying back to Texas tomorrow.

I walked over to the convention center for breakfast.  Then some sessions.  I got to meet my friend Gary today.  We’ve been friends on Spiceworks and on Facebook for many years, but have never met in person.  We got to hang out a little bit today.

In the late afternoon I was over at the hotel for a little while.  Then went out to find the after party.  It was a little bit of a walk but not far.  Veeam had gotten an entire street blocked off for their party and had a huge indoor and outdoor venue for us with multiple stages and all kinds of music and entertainment going on along with loads of food and drinks.  It was really well done.

Most everyone gravitated to one of the big acts like the pop, rock or zydeco bands.  But I found a little jazz trio playing on a balcony and hung out there much of the evening when I wasn’t meeting with one person or another.
