Today is my work from home day this week while Dominica is in the office. So I got to spend the day with my girls. They are getting better and better at being good when I am home. They are used to not being able to be in my office all of the time and making lots of noise. Luciana is finally old enough that she and Liesl can play games together all day long too which is great. They are getting to be really good at entertaining themselves in fun, social, educational activity. Liesl is great at making up games and Luciana just loves following along after her participating in whatever she can. They are so cute.
April 3, 2013: Susan in Dallas
I had to get up early this morning and get signed in so that I could make sure that no disasters were happening after the test from last night. And thus began a very long day.
I had just an insanely busy morning jumping from one thing to another. It was a busy day.
After work I ran home early to see the family for just a little bit and then drove down to Trinity Mills Station and caught the train downtown. Susan is in town just for this evening and we were meeting downtown to catch up. We haven’t seen her in years since we moved out of New Jersey. So nearly four years now. Dominica was trying to go but we couldn’t get a babysitter for tonight so it was just be going down. Susan will be back in a few months and will stay longer so that she can actually visit when she is back.
The train ride was fine but the rain started to pick up a little on the ride and was coming down well once I got to Akard Station. I walked down to the Adolphus Hotel and dried off a bit and met Susan there but we decided to just walk up the block to the Tower Club and do dinner there. It is Susan’s first time in Dallas and there is no better introduction to the town that the view from the Tower.
We had a nice evening but I had to run for the train after dinner in the pouring rain. It was a very wet night.
April 2, 2013: Getting Behind and Back to Home
I had to be up early this morning to do a phone call with the UK and Liechtenstein today. That was interesting. Then off to the office. Dominica is working today so I drove the girls up to daycare for the day as I am going to take off to be home on Thursday instead.
Normal day at work. Dominica’s work was alright as well. Got home this evening and did some network training over Lync online which was kind of cool doing a large Lync meeting for the first time.
Work has been pretty busy and I am getting a bit behind on SGL. Working hard to get caught up. It has been a busy winter and a busy spring. Good busy, but busy.
April 1, 2013: Back Home
I went into the office today and Dominica shifted her hours so that she was working Tuesday instead of Monday so that it would work better for me getting into the office. We are very tired after our trip out to California but we are really glad that we decided to do it. That was a lot of fun and a really nice weekend away together and it was really great that Dominica got to see California and the Pacific Ocean and that we both got to check out Silicon Valley and San Francisco. I now have a completely different appreciation for the region. It is no wonder that people are willing to pay a premium to live out there. It is truly an amazing region.
Pretty much a normal work day for me. There was some April Fools pranks on Spiceworks today where everyone in the community (well not really everyone but a lot of people) changed their usernames to match mine and switched to my picture and just added a number at the end of their name. I’m never quite sure where this April Fools things come from but that was what we did today.
Dominica and the girls did very little today. It was a busy week. Liesl and Luciana really needed a day of nothing to get themselves back to normal.
Dominica and I have been watching a lot of the show Community that we only discovered recently on Hulu Plus. Good stuff.
March 31, 2013: Easter in Houston
Today is our busy day in Houston. We spent the morning at the Grices’ with a lot of cooking and party prep going on. I did not have very much time to attempt to do class work so I saved that to do over at the Toccos’ since we had to be over there pretty early anyway.
The morning at the Grices’ always seems to be the same – baking and more baking. It is very hard to diet when down here.
It was early afternoon that we went over to the Toccos’. Joe couldn’t be there today as he is stuck working all day. His schedule is awful.
I got to hang out with the family some and got to help out as the kids did their Easter Egg hunt. Liesl did really well finding eggs all over the house. Luciana had a lot of fun too and found a lot. It was all very adorable.
I had to spend the entire evening working like crazy on my class work, though. That was no fun. I pretty much had the week off out of necessity which left me with just tons and tons of work to do today. It was a mad scramble to get everything done before I had to turn it in.
It ended up being a quarter till ten when we pulled out of the Grices’ to get on the road back to Dallas. We stopped at McDonald’s just to grab some drinks for the road then got to driving. The trip went really quickly and we made excellent time, even after I stopped at Buc-ees and got a sandwich for the drive. It was barely two when we got to the house.
