October 2, 2012: House Construction Begins

Woke up at three this morning.  I tried laying in bed for a while but it wasn’t long before that got old.  So I got up and went to the office, very quietly and got about two and a half hours of work in at the house before heading out to the gym at Brookhaven for my morning workout.

Not a bad workout today but I cut it short as I am not feeling all that well today.  Just some lifting and a forty minute elliptical workout.  Then shower and in to the office.

I was in the office early but it was still a busy day.  I am doing really well at catching up on my emails, though, and I am very happy about that.  An empty mailbox makes me happy and efficient.

I went home at lunch and Chris came over too and met Danielle and Art for the first time.  We put in two hours working there and they stayed to work and I went back to the office.  He stayed and worked long after I had gone back to the office.  They were there all afternoon.  A productive day.

As soon as I got home from work this evening we all drove down to Brookhaven for kids’ night.  We sat outside and enjoyed the weather.  It is warm enough to be out in the evening without a jacket, but just barely.  The firepits were going but we didn’t need to be close to one.  The girls were able to run around most of the evening as there were not too many people eating outside.  It was a nice change for them.

After dinner, home to put the girls to bed and a relatively early night for everyone.  I was up later working, as usual, in the office.

Some construction has begun on the house.  The bar wall isn’t out yet but the cabinets are and Art has been looking into the wall to get a feel for what to do tomorrow.  Tomorrow the wall itself will be gone.

October 1, 2012: The Ralstons Arrive in Texas

Got up this morning and wasn’t feeling too hot.  I am assuming that I have the stomach bug that is going around and had better not go in to work as I will spread it everywhere.  I wasn’t feeling awful, just not up to par but I know what it is that I might have so best not to infect the entire office.

So I worked from home all day.  Everyone here is pretty much feeling better.

The Ralstons made great time coming down from New York.  They decided not to stay anywhere last night and just drove through the night.  So instead of arriving late tonight close to midnight they actually got in just after three this afternoon!

So we spent the afternoon and evening just hanging out.  I skipped ballroom tonight both because we were visiting and because I didn’t want to do a full night of dancing if I was carrying the stomach bug around with me, too much contact with other people if dancing.

So tonight, Michael, Art and I ran up to Hebron to the Waffle House to pick up dinner for everyone.  We ate and then everyone but me went to bed pretty early.  Luciana is sleeping in Liesl’s room.  Liesl is sleeping in our room.  Art and Danielle have Luciana’s room which doubles as the guest room with a full queen bed with memory foam mattress on it.  I stayed up for a while working before turning in.

I’ll be going into the office tomorrow.  I’ve been home for four straight days now.

September 30, 2012: Liesl Sick

For only the second time, really, Liesl was sick today.  She woke up very sick this morning and moved from her room into our bed so that she could be close to us, which meant no more sleep for us.  So today was spent mostly taking care of Liesl.  That and watching Doctor Who.  By the end of the day Liesl was doing pretty well.

The Ralstons arrive tomorrow afternoon.  We are not exactly all that ready for them at this point.  But what are we going to do?  Hopefully we have gotten the sick out of the family so that everyone isn’t sick after they get here.

September 29, 2012: Feeling Better on Saturday

Dominica and Luciana are feeling a bit better today.  The stomach bug appears to just be one of those normal, annual twenty-four hour deals that goes around.  Nothing awful but pretty annoying.

At noon we went to Denny’s to get some lunch.  Dominica was up to eating today so that was good.

Very slow day, trying to get the house ready for the Ralstons who arrive here on Monday.  We can only do so much for that, of course, since the moment that they arrive the house will begin being torn apart for construction.

We spent most of the day as a family just watching reruns of Doctor Who.  The seventh season is out but we don’t have any access to it so we are watching the first six seasons again instead so that we are ready for when that comes out.

September 28, 2012: The Flu Begins

I got up nice and early this morning at three and worked from the home office for several hours before going in to the gym at five thirty to work out.  I got in a nice workout and before I left the gym at eight to go to the office I checked my iPhone and had a message from Dominica telling me to be on the alert as she had woken up, didn’t feel all that well and that I might need to come home if she wasn’t feeling better later on in the morning.  I knew that going to work would be dangerous because I would get there, be busy, have to go home and that would cause problems.  So I just ran home before work started so that I wouldn’t have to deal with all of the extra driving.

On the way back home I stopped at the Donut place at the corner of Belt Line and Webb Chapel and picked up donut holes for Liesl and Luciana and apple fritters for Dominica and I and headed back to the house.

It was a good thing that I just went home.  By the time that I got home Dominica was really sick and within a few hours Luciana was too.  This was Dominica’s first time actually being sick, I mean “really” sick since 1999!  And this was Luciana’s first real stomach bug too.  Oh the joys of being the healthy one while everyone is very sick.  What a day.  Liesl, thankfully, did really well.

This evening, once all of the girls were asleep, Watson and I went out to Malarkey’s Tavern to talk about work and so that he could show off his new iPhone 5 with LTE, which was pretty cool.  We weren’t out super late and the tavern is close to home.  Need plenty of sleep to make sure that I don’t get sick too.
