August 9, 2018: Long Day, Little Food

Thursday.  Today was a very busy one. Got up and worked like bad all day.  Was very tired, but there was only time to work.  I was at it hard until four in the afternoon.

Then I got a little break and went out to hang out in the atrium for a little while before working with Rodrigo to do a firewall swap out for a customer out in Denver.  Firewall swaps are always a lot of stress because the network is offline, there is no way to look anything up from the old system, and everything has to be done over the phone with remote hands as there is no way to see the new firewall until it is in place.

I basically did not get to eat all day.  Just yoghurt and pickles.  Karla was teasing me with pictures of her amazing looking Nicaragua fish fry that looked so good that I have to include the picture here.

That is fried curvina, which is caught in the lake near Jinotega up in teh mountains.  It looks so good.

I’m pretty sure that Kat came over to hang out this evening, but for some reason, probably because I was so ridiculously busy all day and well into the evening, I failed to make any specific note that she was here.  But it is Thursday night and the gap in my notes suggests that she was here and that that was why I was busy and not making notes because once I was done with work we were all sitting out in the atrium hanging out.

August 8, 2018: Losing Internet to Get Sleep

Wednesday.  I worked late last night and was up early today. So was a bit tired starting off the day.  My early morning was lots of NextCloud and FreePBX work.

My day was pretty busy.   Did manage to get dinner, though.  And sat outside in the atrium for a little bit, but Maggie needed me to help with some work so around ten this evening I had to go back into the office.

I did manage to get a picture of Paul playing guitar out in the atrium before I had to get working again, though.

I ended up working until three in the morning!  I only stopped when I did because our Internet went out here in Dallas and I figured that I should not wait for it in the wee hours of the morning.  So off to bed I went.

August 7, 2018: Second Fridge Up and Running

Tuesday.  The new fridge has been in place and is able to be stocked with food today.  And now it is daylight, so I was able to get a picture of it now that it is in place.

We’ve really put the wine and beer fridges to use, too.  Both are totally full now that Paul fixed the beer fridge. The wine fridge has always been used, but the beer fridge has been unplugged for a year or more.  We just didn’t use it much.  But we are entertaining regularly and there is no room for beer or soda in the “food fridges.”

The new fridge has a pull out drawer that is perfect for Ciana to be able to have all of her snacks, like yoghurt, pudding, cheese sticks, etc. all right there separated out for her.  It is right at her height so that she can see and reach everything that she needs to.

With my diet, we are going through so many veggies and fruits that we need much more space.  My salad greens alone take up an entire shelf.

The Nicaragua office lost power today.  This is going to be an all too common problem there.  The area shares power with Managua which has notorious flaky power.

I did some laptop setup work today for a customer.  And some NextCloud installs.

My day was long and I ended up working long into the night.

August 6, 2018: New Fridge

Monday.  We started the day with the city having to turn off the water in the area because of some work being done nearby.  So we had an hour or two without water this morning.

We’ve been talking about getting a second refrigerator for a few days.  So this afternoon, Dominica and Paul went out to a used appliance dealer and found a great deal on a large (much larger than our current) stainless steel fridge and brought it home.  Just six hundred dollars for a really nice one!  It was too good to pass up.

The fridge was so heavy. Paul had to run to Home Depot and rent a hard core serious furniture dolly so that we could move it.  It was all that we could do to lift it off of the truck.  Once we got it off, we knew that we could not bring it into the house on our own, so Dominica got stuck sitting outside in a lawn chair watching the fridge while I worked and Paul drove to get the dolly.

We got it in and set up while it was still morning.  It looks pretty decent in the kitchen.  We want to completely gut the kitchen, anyway.  But it mostly matched, although it is so much bigger than our old one. But we were nowhere close to being able to store everything in the fridge that we need to.  With three adults, and cooking nearly every meal at home, and with Paul eating different food than the rest of us our food storage needs have just exploded.

August 5, 2018: Swimming at Kim’s

Sunday.  It was nice out today and we sat outside for a bit.

I spent some time this afternoon trying to get video games working for the girls again after the “old” video game laptop died and I had to move them to the new one.  So much work for things that should be so simple.

This afternoon, Kim invited us over to her new apartment in Addison for everyone to go swimming.  The kids have been dying to get more swimming time in, and Kim has been trying to have us over for a couple of weeks.

We got everyone packed up mid-afternoon and drove down to Addison.  We hung out and got the tour of the new apartment for a while.  Liesl had a scary run in with a dog and we spent most of an hour getting her bandaged and calmed down.  She just got a small bite on her arm, but it was a close call and very scary.  It took her a long time to recover from the shock of it.

We swam for a few hours.  The pool is pretty nice and very handy, right next to Kim’s apartment.  The girls had a great time.  They love swimming so much.  They definitely do not get that from me.

It was late when we headed back home.  So on the way back we took a quick swing into Taco Bell and got dinner for everyone.

Showers for everyone once we were back home.  The pool water was very stinky, so no one was able to hold off on taking showers tonight.
