August 29, 2017: The Toccos Start to Flood

Tuesday.  The storms have been battering Houston for days now and today, the Toccos’ place there has started to flood.  It didn’t get bad until later in the day.  The Grices’ new home, which is just down the street, is just enough higher that they were able to escape the water.  But Joe’s house was a few feet under water today, and they even managed to get a video of a large number of fish swimming through their bedroom!

Tomorrow morning I am flying to Phoenix.  So today was mostly packing, prepping, light work, and things going on because the family is flooding down in Houston.  I got checked in for my flight and will be there tomorrow.

I did do a little work building some PBXs today.

I have to head to the airport at six thirty tomorrow morning, so a short post today.

August 28, 2017: IKEA Chair

Monday.  Busy day of posting and content creation.  My real work these days.

This evening, around six, we took the kids up to the IKEA in Frisco.  They love going there.  It is such a treat.  We go all around the store and they love dreaming about rooms designed like the IKEA designers make them.  They love to eat there and to explore every inch of the store.

Our mission tonight is a chair.  Dominica really liked the simple IKEA chair that we had while we lived in Italy this past winter and she wants the same one for our house here.

We got home at nearly eight and Dominica, with Liesl’s assistance, assembled our new IKEA chair that will go in the living room.

August 27, 2017: Video Game Sunday

Sunday.  The storm in Houston keeps getting worse.  We are hearing constant reports about it, but so far, the family there is not having any problems.

Liesl got up and first thing this morning played hours of Age of Empires II HD against Garrett online.  Liesl has really developed some mature video gaming tastes.

Dominica was watching Game of Thrones, which I am not interested in.  And after that started watching, of all things, Sister Act.  Admittedly, it is a classic.  But an odd choice when having just wrapped up Game of Thrones.

August 26, 2017: What Distro to Use

Saturday.  I woke up this morning and a child had fallen asleep across my legs so I was trapped and unable to get out of bed for a while.

Today I had a gecko running around the office, he actually climbed onto my Chromebook and hung out on it for a very long time.  This is funny because my main computer runs Gecko Linux.  But the real gecko is on my Chromebook.  Well, I thought that it was funny, anyway.

Liesl got up right away this morning and went straight to the Steam machine so that she could play more XCOM.  She is loving that game.

Dominica made a full breakfast for everyone this morning.

I did a lot of SAMIT YouTube videos today.  They will be posting for a while.

I didn’t eat all day, after the big breakfast, until after midnight when I fried up some veggie burgers for myself.  I’ve learned out to pan fry them and make them really delicious.

At one in the morning, Dominica actually decided to do some house cleaning.

A lot of my day was spent researching what I want to use as a desktop.  I have been using Gecko Linux and I really like it, but it is not quite what I want. I really liked Korora but support seems to be way too slow for it.  Solus lacks some features that I need, namely SodiumSuite support.  Deepin looks really intriguing.  Fedora desktop is getting a lot of love these days, too.

August 25, 2017: Hurricane Starting to Decent on Houston

Friday.  For me it was a relatively normal work morning. For me, right now, that means a focus on social media stuff like MangoLassi and Spiceworks.  I’m in a holding pattern as I’m just starting this new COO position in the logistics industry for a company in the Middle East and I am just waiting for my flight out to Phoenix to interview the staff and see how well they are doing. So after our crazy spring and summer, now this is where we are, but for a Friday when I’ve not really gotten into the office yet, there is not too much to focus on so I am keeping on with my posting habits for now.

This morning Liesl started playing XCOM on her own.  She has been loving watching me play and wants to do it herself.  This is not an easy game and it is really impressive that she is able to play it!

By late afternoon the rain from the hurricane was already hitting western Houston hard and they are calling it a disaster before the hurricane itself even gets to them.

I did some work on my YouTube channel today, as well.

So mostly we are watching the news from Houston to see what is happening with everyone there.

I got to play some XCOM tonight, which is very fun and very involved.
