May 14, 2013: Driving to Austin

I had to go into the office today, which I was planning on going to anyway.  But today I am really needed.  I got in and the office was truly empty.  There were only a couple of people in the office at all.  It was kind of crazy.

I did what homework I could during the day but that was pretty much none.  I left the office a little after four and made for Austin as quickly as I could.  It is a really long drive.  Spiceworks is located in the Northwest Hills and it takes at least another half an hour to get to their location once arriving in Austin.

The drive went fine and there wasn’t too much traffic.  I made acceptable time from the DFW to Austin.  Starting from the office gave me a couple of minutes advantage over leaving from home, but only a couple.

It was about seven thirty when I pulled into the Spiceworks parking lot, a bit later than I had hoped but not too bad.

We put in about two hours preparing for the live broadcast tomorrow.  It was fun.  Ted from SpiceWorld 2009 was there.  It’s been years since we have seen each other.  It was fun catching up.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn near the Spiceworks offices.  Nice room, good Internet access.  Did some work before turning in for the night.  Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day.

On the way to the Holiday Inn there was an accident on the road, I got caught in the traffic for it.  I didn’t think anything of it tonight but it will be important tomorrow.

May 13, 2013: Final Open Day

I stayed home from work today and spent the day with the girls while Dominica was at work.  We got very little time to hang out, though, as in addition to work I had to work like frantic on my work for RIT as today is my last full day of being able to work on most of my stuff.  Tomorrow I will be in the office and am leaving early to drive down to Austin where I am working tomorrow night for a few hours and then going to work there all day on Wednesday so instead of having Wednesday evening free to wrap things up I will be busy driving back to Dallas.

Was productive today, still have a lot to do but am moving forward well.  Need to get into the office for the next two months, one of our team members took a cricket ball to the eye over the weekend and is in the hospital so we are short people even more than we had been expecting which is pretty short already.

May 12, 2013: Final Final Day

Today is Sunday and my last day for my finals.  I slept in a lot this morning because I was up so late working last night.  Once I was awake it was straight back to working on stuff for school.  Another very long day for me.  I had to work the entire day, morning (what was left of it), noon and night.  I worked until quite late.  Very little news from today other than I got a ton of work done and am in pretty decent shape going into my final week.  My final exam proper has been completed and submitted.  Some of my projects are well underway.  I am feeling pretty good, overall, as I prepre to wrap up.

May 11, 2013: Princess Brunch and Finals

For Mother’s Day Dominica decided that instead of doing the expensive, crowded and mostly formal Mother’s Day Brunch at Brookhaven Country Club that we would do the half price, very casual and more fun Princess Breakfast with a Real Princess also at Brookhaven.  She thought that the girls would like this a lot more.  So I took the morning “off” from school and we slept in just a little and got the girls dressed up like princesses and went to Brookhaven.

There wasn’t much of a turnout at Brookhaven today, we were expecting far more people.  We just used a small corner of the main clubhouse.  They had Cinderella set up in a side room.  The girls had a really good time.  Breakfast was pretty basic but was good.  The girls had a lot of fun playing with Cinderella, getting balloon animals, getting their faces painted and then doing a princess training thing where they learned how to behave like princesses.  Liesl was about the perfect age for it.

After brunch we came back home and I spent the rest of the day working on my stuff for school.  I have a final to write this weekend and it is a “take home” final so instead of the three hours that I had to spend on my last exam, this one they are expecting more like eight hours of actually writing the exam.  Not a trivial amount of work for a test.

May 10, 2013: Last Day of Masters Classes

Friday.  Officially the final class day of my Masters degree.  It doesn’t mean much as finals and projects are still due and class discussion will continue informally but it is a sort of milestone for me.

For lunch today we took are Polish friend out to Redneck so that he could try actual American Buffalo hot wings.  Redneck actually uses a pretty much authentic Buffalo style recipe (I know it from their Buffalo sauce on their shrimp) so he wanted to try that and that’s where we knew that they were good.

Got home at a decent time this evening, not too bad at all.  Spent the evening working on my classwork.  I’m now into the final week.  One week from tonight absolutely everything must be done, no ifs, ands or buts.  Some stuff ended tonight and there will be something due every few days now.  No more class work proper though.  My first final begins tomorrow.
