February 8, 2013: Finishing My First Project

Today is Friday.  Dad ended up watching the girls mostly on his own today because Dominica ended up just being really busy and needing to work much of the day.    I was in the office all day.  I actually got up nice and early and got into the office pretty early.  I am feeling good today as my workload, while heavy, is coming along well and I should have no issues wrapping up my first big block of work by eleven tonight which is my deadline on it.

I had to talk to my adviser at RIT today.  I am hoping to get everything underway for the next quarter so that I can wrap up my degree program.  Fingers crossed that that will work out.  Very anxious to get that completed.

After work, as she often does on Fridays, Dominica had me go to Rockfish and pick up dinner.  I was out at a moderate time for a Friday getting home around seven with our food.

We ate dinner and watched some more of Are You Being Served? which Dominica and I have been working through for the last few weeks.  We are nearly done with all ten seasons now.  Every few years we watch through the entire series.  It is one of our staples.  I have been watching that show since mom and I used to watch it together when I was probably around middle school age.  That’s the show that I used to watch and eat chocolate chips in peanut butter like my girls do now.

Dad took off shortly after dinner.  He needs his rest.  I worked until eleven, finished my project and was ready for bed myself.

February 7, 2013: Dad Babysits

This morning is dad’s first time being alone with the girls.  Dominica was off to work early, as she usually is on Thursdays, so dad came over to take care of the girls while I am at the office.  My Thursday morning call that I have weekly has been moved to nine o’clock rather than eight thirty so it is easier for me to get out the door and make it to the office for the call rather than doing it from home before going in.  I got Luciana’s diaper changed and Liesl dressed and I was out the door.  Dominica is just up the street so if dad needs her, she is only minutes away.

Everything went well, though, for dad and the girls.  They did a pretty good job of wearing him out, though.

I have tons of work that is due tomorrow so I came home and got right to work for the entire evening working at Dominica’s desk.  We had stayed up last night too late as well.  Well I had, Dominica had to go to bed early because she was going into the office this morning so I had stayed up until about three getting work done.  Tonight I was beat so I went to bed at nine, just a little bit after dad had headed back to the hotel.

My work is going well and I should have no problem getting it all completed for tomorrow night’s deadline.  Boy am I ever busy these days, though.

February 6, 2013: Dad’s First Full Day in Texas

Dominica and I were up late last night.  Luckily, just late enough that I decided to take a shower before going to bed.  While I was in the shower I missed a few phone calls from the office.  Luckily I looked at my mobile before going to bed and saw that I was needed.  So I logged into the office and ended up working until six in the morning!  The upside is is that I will be home all day tomorrow and will get to spend some time with dad since he is here.  So that worked out pretty well, in a way.

I slept in until around ten which was still a super short night of sleep, less than four hours, but it was enough.  I got up and got logged into the office around ten thirty.  It’s nice that I get to be home today so I get to spend the day with dad rather than being in the office today, on his first full day in Texas.

The girls are so excited that grandpa is here all day.  They are having so much fun having him to play with them all day.  They don’t know what to do with themselves.  The biggest issue now is the two of them fighting over who gets to spend the most time with grandpa.

The project with the girls today was to paint masks that dad had brought for them.  Liesl thought that it was great fun painting her mask and wearing it around the house.

February 5, 2013: Dad Arrives in Texas

Today is the day.  Dad gets into Dallas this afternoon.  Liesl is so excited that she can’t stand it at all.  She is ready to explode with anticipation.  She sure misses her grandpa.

I was up and into the office early this morning.  I worked through lunch to make sure that I was as caught up as possible and this afternoon I ran to the post office to get the first two boxes of books that I have ready to go shipped off to Seattle.  Shipping books via USPS is surprisingly cheap.  I had no idea.

I had to rush because dad’s flight got in about half an hour early from Detroit.  So I got back to the office, made sure that I was caught up and ran to the airport at two.  I timed it just about perfectly as dad had just walked to the curb to call and let me know that he was there as I came past the first terminal so he only had to wait about three minutes for me to pull up to the curb and I didn’t have to make any airport loops.

From the airport we drove straight to his hotel in Addison so that we could be sure that he got checked in and that everything was in order.  Unfortunately the manager wasn’t there to check him in when they were supposed to be so we got stuck waiting for her to return for over half an hour.  Good thing that I had my phones on my so that I could be watching email and letting Dominica know what had happened to us.  Poor Liesl was stuck waiting a bit longer to see grandpa.

Once we got dad checked in we went straight over to the house so that he could see the girls.  Liesl was so excited when he got there that she just ran around the house, back and forth, as she does.

I worked from home for the last little bit of the day and then we all went to Brookhaven for kids’ night on the early side as we were all very hungry.

It was a “quiet” night of dad playing with the kids.  Then I drove him back to his hotel so that he could get some sleep.

February 4, 2013: Final Day Before Dad Arrives

Today is the last day before dad comes down to Texas for his annual two week long winter visit.  Liesl has been counting down the days for weeks.  Every day she asks how much longer it will be and how many days until she sees grandpa.  It’s Monday so I am home with Liesl and Luciana while Dominica is at the office.

I had a lot of office work to do today so I wasn’t able to get a lot of house cleaning done beyond that.  The girls were perfect angels today, though, so I did get some done and they did not make a mess of the house as they often do, thankfully.

Dominica didn’t have a super long day today which was good since she will be frantically cleaning tomorrow before dad arrives in the afternoon.
