Monday it is. Dominica and I both had to work today. That’s about it. Back to work after the holiday weekend. The office is exceptionally quiet today. Many people out still from the fourth. The office will be pretty empty all week.
July 7, 2013: Resting Day
A lazy Sunday. I was the first one up today. Kyler didn’t sleep in for too long. We had breakfast at the house, the five of us, and hung out until around eleven when Kyler had to take off to go to a family event. Dominica had a salon appointment around noon so I watched the girls for a while.
This afternoon we just took off and relaxed. This whole weekend was a “blow off” weekend for us to relax and enjoy the extended holiday. Time to do some resting up.
July 6, 2013: Dr. Who Marathon Day
Slept in this morning. It is a holiday weekend and our plan is to do absolutely nothing. We really need a good, solid weekend of relaxation. So this morning we did some light cleaning and a lot of playing with the girls. One of their favourite things is just to have me lie on the bed in our bedroom and Liesl and Luciana come in and jump on me. Luciana likes to stand on my back and leap off although sometimes she just resorts to body slamming me. We probably did that for an hour today.
Kyler came over at one and we set to watching about thirteen hours of Doctor Who! We made it all of the way through the first season and a good chunk into the second season this afternoon and evening. Liesl watched most of it with us. She is such a Doctor Who fan.
I’m in a mood to go back and start watching the old shows now. Netflix is starting to get the old episodes now. They are missing tons of them but they do have a few. Enough to get to see many that I’ve not seen before and hopefully some that I’ll remember from my childhood. It has been a long time since I have watched the Tom Baker or Peter Davidson years, those were really the ones that I grew up on.
It was late so Kyler used the guest bedroom tonight. Ciana slept in Liesl’s room. They love getting to do that.
July 5, 2013: Long, Lonely Non-Farm Day
It really, really sucks that today is non-farm payroll and that yesterday was the holiday. That’s not so much a real holiday. So I had to be up at five thirty this morning with just two hours of sleep. I felt pretty crappy. Only about three hours of sleep the night before.
I got into the office and there was only one other person here. Very silly for anyone to be here at all but non-farm needs to be covered and I’m overly dedicated so here I am.
It was an incredibly slow day, as expected. There is almost no one looking to do work on a Friday between a holiday and a weekend. The place is a ghost town. Sadly I had a ton of deployments scheduled for the evening so my early morning and late night are busy but the whole middle of the day is completely dead.
So at lunch time I switched to working from home. I worked a fourteen hour day when most everyone else worked four so I felt pretty burned out.
The moment I was done working, Liesl and I played about an hour of her video game on my desktop, Ankh 3. We’ve barely been getting any time to play that for weeks. Need to make sure that we are making a point of getting to spend that time together.
Kyler is coming over tomorrow early afternoon for a Dr. Who marathon. So we are pretty much taking the day off.
July 4, 2013: D&D Day
Today is our all day Dungeons and Dragons game. Nothing but D&D all day. It was around nine when I got up. It was Luciana who got me up. I knew that once she was up there was nothing that we were going to be able to do since she would run out into the living room and wake everyone else up to. So I had to get up and wrangle her into our room. I think Dominica actually got her up, but I got up with her. It’s all a bit fuzzy, very little sleep this week.
Kyler and Morgan were already up. Morgan and I ran to Jack in the Box and picked up breakfast for everyone. Then back to the house to get the game started up.
It took a little while to get things moving this morning but by late morning we were playing the game again.
We gamed until around seven thirty. Then Jose and Morgan had to run some errands and were gone until midnight. The rest of us ended up playing without them. Those of us left got Subway for dinner to eat while we played.
We played until about two in the morning. Boy were we tired but it was a lot of fun. As Rachel said, this was the best Fourth of July ever.
I stayed up talking with Dominica and Kyler about the game until three or later. They stayed up until four! Kyler crashed at our house again. Everyone else headed home between two and two thirty.
