July 13, 2013: Breakfast at Pete’s

We felt like a real breakfast this morning.  So we got up and all went out to Pete’s Cafe down on Beltline in Farmer’s Branch.  We love the breakfast there.  Everyone is really friendly and the food is great.  Dominica and I are addicted to the migas there.  We had a delicious breakfast and then, just home for the rest of the day.

So SGL has now climbed, probably based on the faster responses and cleaner site now that we are self hosting rather than on Rackspace and using CloudFlare more effectively, to three quarters of a million page views per month.  When you combine that with the other sites that I work on like SMB IT Journal, Scott Alan Miller on Linux and Scott Alan Miller on Windows I’m over eight hundred thousands page views every month.  I’m sure the views on my articles on some commercial sites are far higher.  Those are crazy numbers, I can’t believe that so many people ready me every day.  My sites get hit every three seconds.

What I’ve noticed recently is that my webserver was going down on a regular basis from load.  I thought that something was wrong but now realize that it actually was being overwhelmed with traffic.  The server was scaled for very light usage.  I had no idea how many people were using my sites!

July 12, 2013: Very Early Night

Nothing particularly special about today.  Normal work day.  Worked a bit late but came home to work from there so that I could see the family while getting stuck late.

Dominica decided to go out tonight.  That works well for Friday nights because I have to work late and am worn out many times and really don’t feel like doing anything.  So I spent the evening watching the girls was work was done.  Ciana went to bed and then Liesl and I played some more of Ankh 3 making it through another chapter before we both went to bed around ten.  A very early evening for both of us, especially me.  But I need to do some sleep catch up and this was a perfect opportunity.

I’m looking forward to being finished with Ankh 3.  We have some really awesome games that I am looking forward to getting to play in the near future.  Now that we have Steam I have been collecting awesome games and want to be able to play them.

July 11, 2013: Week Five of Dungeons & Dragons

It is very, very hard to believe that we have now been playing Dungeons & Dragons consistently for more than a month.  This is quite an accomplishment.  If you consider last week to have been two sessions then this is our sixth session in our fifth week.  Crazy.  We’ve not lost a single person so far and everyone is remaining excited about the game.

Dominica is in the office today and I had to drive the girls up to Corinth for daycare this morning.  Did my best to get into the office as early as I could.  I had an eight o’clock call before heading in.  Today was a super busy day.

This afternoon I was supposed to have a roadmap meeting with HP.  The original meeting got cancelled at two in the afternoon and since I had worked through lunch, as had everyone else apparently, Dan, Doue and I decided to run out for a very late “lunch” in the middle of the afternoon at an Asian Fusion Buffet in Irving.  The food was quite good, it was a new place for me.  Dominica would really like it.

The HP meeting regroups at three thirty but we lost our conference space after ten minutes and ended up just giving up on the meeting.

Got home and helped Dominica clean to be ready for the game tonight.

Tonight’s game had a really tough time getting started.  There was more drinking than there probably should have been and there was a ton of time spent in the kitchen cooking one thing or another and everyone was late before we even got to that point.  So it was nearly ten before we even managed to get started on the game and people were already pretty tired.  It was a rough night for D&D.

July 10, 2013: Dice Shopping in Denton

Pretty uneventful day today.  In the office, Dominica was home with the girls.  She decided to take them up to Denton today and go shopping for dice and stuff at the D&D shops up there.  The girls all think that the dice are a lot of fun so Dominica is getting them dice of their own to help keep them occupied so that they are less likely to try to steal everyone else’s dice while we play.

For lunch today Dan and I went to Redneck.  I’ve been mostly avoiding the place for the last week having been so burned out being there so much two weeks ago.

Overall, very quiet day.  Came home and we just hung out at the house watching Netflix as a family.

July 9, 2013: Lifting with Chris

Went to work this morning.  Just a normal Tuesday.  Took a late lunch and instead of eating went up to Carrollton to the Rosemeade Recreation Center so that I could lift with Chris.  He’s working on training me to lift and this is my first time checking out the gym that he works at.  It is a really nice municipal facility.  They have a big pool complex too.  The girls would love it up there.  Very cheap too since it is owned by the City of Carrollton.

I didn’t get to lift as early as I had hoped, I ended up having to work on the phone for about thirty minutes.  Once that was done I did some serious lifting with Chris and his friend Mark.

After lifting I decided to head for home as it was getting late and I was all sweaty and home was just a few minutes away and work was very far away.

After work we all went to the Genghis Grill in Addison for stir fry.  The girls tried having stir fry too tonight instead of mac and cheese.  After dinner we went to Braum’s for ice cream.  The girls love going out for ice cream.  Mommy and daddy like it too.

Good day but I was pretty soar by the time that we went to bed.
